Enjoy weeks or short breaks in our award winning Eco-building which is tucked away in the grounds of a former farmhouse overlooking the Pevensey Levels (SSSI). The purpose built fully centrally heated building sleeps four in two bedrooms each of which has its own en-suite shower room and TV/Video/DVD/Radio and CD Player. It is graded four stars by VisitBritain. The premises are well appointed with an open plan sitting/dining room/ kitchen which is fully equipped to a high standard with fridge freezer, dishwasher, washer/tumbler drier, microwave, gas hob and electric fan oven. We welcome children and can supply a cot, a baby bath, a high chair and a childs bed as required.
Prices are fully inclusive of all electricity, gas, bed linen, towels and cleaning materials. There are absolutely no extra charges.
The south facing covered loggia and patio capture the morning sun and are a pleasant spot to eat out or just sit at any time of the day. We supply a gas barbecue for guests sole use, and there is free WiFi for those who bring their laptops. Just bring yourselves and enjoy a game of croquet on the lawn, or other family games such as giant versions of chess, dominoes, snakes and ladders, hi-tower and giant pick up sticks.
Alternatively watch the birds at the feeders or look out for visiting foxes and badgers. Located in the completely enclosed garden of a former farmhouse, we are ideally situated for visiting 1066 Country, the South Downs, the Pevensey Levels, Eastbourne, Lewes, Brighton and Tunbridge Wells. Walkers, cyclists and bird watchers will find plenty to see on the Pevensey Levels, and we provide secure dry storage for boots, bicycles and other gear. Ample off road parking.
Environmental principles underpinned the concept from the start, so that the design is one 'typical' of environmental architecture:
it is constructed of wood sourced from certified sustainable woodland within the UK
it is south-east facing to capture morning light
the expansive double glazing captures and retains'passive solar heat'
natural ventilation is provided by wide opening doors and windows
the insulation is made of recycled telephone directories and newspapers.
The design means that minimal energy is required to heat the building, although it was decided to install central heating to deal with the winter chills.
The building of the premises has led to the 'recovery' of a waste area of the garden.
The gardens are planted with native plants, and are designed to attract a range of birds and wild mammals. We are currently considering how to respond to the challenges of climate change; rainfall is increasingly erratic and sparse in the South East of England.
Organic principles underpin gardening methods wherever possible, and we are deliberately addressing issues of drought and global warming by planting some areas with cultivars which require minimal water.
