Lime Trees and Beech Wood are two light and airy 1960's houses located in the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands countryside. They are down a private track on the site of a magnificent Victorian Waterworks right beside the picturesque Caldon Canal. The situation is very tranquil yet it's easy to walk to local shops and excellent country pubs along footpaths and the canal.
Each house has been completely renovated to a high standard. The accommodation is very comfortable and welcoming with full central heating and a wood burning stove for cosy evenings. There is everything you might need for a lovely holiday including a washing machine, beautiful oak kitchen well equipped to cook and bake special meals, satellite TV, DVD player, and WiFi. Downstairs is an L shaped living/dining room, large windows on both sides and french doors out to a paved area, a great place to watch the setting sun through the trees onto the fields beyond.
Upstairs is a modern family bathroom with shower. There are three bedrooms. We had great fun tracking down original 1960's furniture for the double and twin rooms and the third bedroom has jolly bunk beds, large enough for adults to enjoy too.
We've tried to create a relaxed and holiday atmosphere within the two houses, somewhere special to escape to. It's easy to spend lots of time just being there; the site is teeming with wildlife and it's fun to watch the narrow boats going up through the Stockton Brook locks. But the wonderful thing is that there are many local attractions. Within half an hour Alton Towers, just down the road is the Potteries full of heritage and still great Pottery shops, or there is Leek, a perfect Market Town, beautiful Arts and Crafts architecture, local food and antique shops. There are Museums, Stately Homes and Gardens, Steam Trains, Theatres and Concert venues. The Stoke-on-Trent tourism website always lists what is happening; this is a vibrant cultural and fun area to stay.
We were delighted to be listed by Visit England for welcoming Cyclists and Walkers to Beech Wood and Lime Trees. The canal towpath is also a foot and cycle path that can take you to interesting places through enchanting and changing landscapes. Beyond Leek is The Roaches, an inspirational place to experience, leading onto the wild romantic moors of the Peak district National Park.
