Horton Lodge Boathouse is a Victorian stone boathouse, built in 1891 on the banks of Rudyard Lake as a fishing and boating lodge. The boathouse offers very peaceful and relaxing accommodation, but there is also the option to fill your time with various activities including sailing, fishing (free of charge bring a current rod licence), canoeing, walking, cycling, shopping and eating out.
Nearby there are many great family days out, including Alton Towers and there are leaflets in the boathouse to help you choose. Of course being on the edge of the peak district offers endless outdoor pursuits! The garden at the Boathouse has many different parts to it, a lakeside patio with a barbeque area and large round table seating eight.
From the patio there are steps leading through the woodland garden with beautiful shrubbery and trees to other small seating areas with views of the lake. From the waterside patio there are a few steps down to the seasonal beach, where you can enjoy the use of the rowing boat and Canadian canoe (included in the price of the holiday). There is also the large balcony off the living room, which hangs over the lake, with water lapping below, making it a lovely spot to have breakfast.
Inside the boathouse is arranged over three floors, its spacious proportions mean that even with a group of eight you can find your own space. There is a generous living space on the ground floor including kitchen, dining room and large living room all having stunning views of the lake. The property has four double bedrooms, three on the first floor each with their own sink unit and one on the lower ground floor, all have uninterupted views of the lake. The Boathouse retains many original features, such as the large open fireplace and the sash windows. As well as the outdoor pursuits, fishing and boating, the house also has a games room with pool table.
