About this property

This detached, stone-built cottage, a former smithy, is set in the grounds of the owner's farmhouse alongside the river Rawthay. It sits amongst beautiful rolling countryside, just a mile from Sedbergh, in the beautiful Howgills. This premier cottage is simply oozing with character and charm throughout, creating a lovely, romantic retreat, just perfect for couples looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and discover the beauty of this outstanding area. Situated solely over the ground floor, a great deal of time and energy has been put into creating a holiday home of real charm and character, from the exposed stone walls to the unusual, but charming telegraph pole in the roof apex, Speight Cottage ticks all the boxes. Small and cosy throughout, the open-plan living area contains a modern and well-equipped kitchen, a dining and sitting area and a lovely woodburning stove. Doors provide access to the patio area and the lovely views down to the river and the fells beyond. A contemporary shower room and double bedroom are located either side of the main living area. Stylish and well thought out accommodation, every care has been taken by the owners to provide a truly outstanding holiday home. Outside, a spacious patio area and dry stone walling provide the backdrop for a luxurious hot tub, where guests can sit and enjoy the views of the donkeys, the farm cockerel, the three resident Highland cattle, sheep and cows in the adjoining meadows, whilst relaxing after a hard day’s walking on the nearby fells. A great base, ideal for keen walkers and cyclists who can make use of the secure bike storage. Just a short drive from the magnificent Lakes, the lovely old Dales villages of Hawes and Dent, Speight Cottage is the ideal jumping off point for those keen to explore the breathtaking scenery of the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. There are so many local places of interest to visit including Fairfield Mill, the picturesque village of Dent, Devils bridge and famous Ruskins view at nearby Kirkby Lonsdale. Treat yourself to this first class retreat.

Sedbergh is a market town at the foot of the Howgill Fells, within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with the Lake District National Park also nearby. The town offers shops, pubs and 12th century church within its olde worlde atmosphere. Be sure to pay Kendal and Hawes a visit.

Sam and Paul are the perfect hosts. It's in the most perfect location, with views to die for. The more you look, the more you see. I loved having highland cows, donkeys, sheep and chickens for neighbours. The dogs are wonderful and will always welcome a fuss. The cottage is in the perfect location for exploring the Lakes and the Dales. So much to go and see. We will definitely be back! Thank you so much!
