About this property

One road back from sandy beach and the Viking trail. Ideal for families, hiking and cyclists. Settled on the coast on the outskirts of the popular seaside town of Margate in Kent is 1 Springfield Road. This idyllic, single-storey holiday home benefits from a fantastic location, paces away from the seafront, traditional seaside attractions and the town’s local amenities, an enclosed garden perfect for your canine companion and three well-appointed bedrooms welcoming up to five guests. Make your way into your new home-from-home where you can unwind in front of the gentle warmth of the electric flame-effect fire and Smart TV with Netflix, while your partner, or designated chef of the group rustles up a hearty meal in the fully-equipped kitchen. Dine together in the conservatory before heading outside to the rear garden where you can savour evening drinks upon the decking, you may even catch a glimpse of the sea between the trees! When stars fill the sky, head inside to wash off the day in the bathroom or shower room before catching your rest in the king-size, twin or single bedroom. 1 Springfield Road lies conveniently near local stores where you can pick up essentials to help ease your self-catered stay as well as pubs including the 19th Hole and the Rose in June where you can enjoy a break from the kitchen with delicious pub food. On sunny days, take advantage of the town’s beaches; stop off at Palm Bay Beach where you can admire the breath-taking views in a tranquil environment while you beloved dog roams freely upon the golden sands, or head to the popular, main Margate Beach where you can soak up the sun on its expansive golden shores while the kids paddle in the sea or tidal swimming pool. The seafront here is lined with attractions like Lost Island Adventure Golf, Dreamland housing fairground rides both old and new and the quirky, hidden gem of Margate Caves and Shell Grotto. Keen ramblers and cyclists will be in their element as the 25-mile-long Viking Coastal Trail runs through the town stopping in charming places like Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Cliffs End, each with countless other attractions. Explore the breath-taking coast of Kent at 1 Springfield Road.

Margate, a popular tourist destination on the eastern coast of Kent, has undergone extensive revitalisation and is now home to the brand-new Turner Contemporary art museum. From fishing and golf to beaches and amusements, this historic seaside town has something to offer everyone. The town's Theatre Royal has been entertaining audiences since 1787. Throughout the year, the Winter Gardens plays host to a wide range of shows, concerts, and musicals featuring some of the world's best performers. Browse artists' studios, unwind in one of the many bars or restaurants, or rent a bike as you stroll along the Margate Harbour Arm and Old Town. There is a four-mile walk, called the Turner and Dickens Trail, that takes the adventurous to Broadstairs. The Hornby Visitor Centre resurrects the glory days of Britain's most beloved toys, while the Shell Grotto's 2000 square feet of winding underground passages will delight any curious tourist. There are many classic seaside rides and a vintage fairground at Dreamland, making it a great destination for families and those looking for a taste of yesteryear's amusements. Margate is a charming seaside resort that manages to be both historic and contemporary, with something to offer visitors of all ages and interests.

It is situated on the headland with just one house (a useful windbreak) before you reach open grass. I think my dog would move here tomorrow! The property is let down by a lack of decent cutlery, uncomfortable sofas and a tv that doesn’t show terrestrial channels without linking to an iPad. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the place to friends, but we would temper their expectations

An outwardly pleasant bungalow on a good corner plot, in a convenient position close to the sea-front (with easy access to coastal walks and the beach and (good food) hotel at Botany Bay), with off-road parking for two cars, a small conservatory, well appointed separate shower room and bathroom, comfortable beds, and a pleasant enclosed and not overlooked garden. However. The property is let down by the feel of being an AirB&B, rather than a holiday rental, with a clutter of random personal effects and food items in drawers and cupboards, a ‘graveyard’ of roller blinds in the corner of the second bedroom, and no “How To” manual; the lounge furniture is tired and uncomfortable, there are broken blinds in most rooms, diaphanous curtains in the main bedroom that leave the room illuminated by the streetlight directly outside, a fully glazed door that provides no privacy to the occupant of the single bedroom (probably was a dining room) and, on stripping the beds prior to our departure, we discovered two horrifically stained and unhygienic pillows, and no mattress protector. In the garden random bits of detritus (including rusty secateurs) and a ‘drunk’ (and a very child unfriendly) rotary washing line in the lawn would have made the garden hazardous for young children, while inside the vacuum cleaner offered for use had a brush-bar so clogged with hair that it was unusable despite it being reported by several previous visitors. Investing just a little time, money and effort could raise the bar significantly for this property.

Forgot to say that house was freezing cold and took 12 hours after arrival to heat up. Also, no instructions were available for working TV and kitchen gadgets and machines. Advertised as TV Freeview and Netflix, we could only use the former as we had a account. No terrestrial TV. Fine, but it should have been stated.
