About this property

In the coastal village of Hope Cove, within a few minutes’ walk of sandy beaches, eateries and the village shop, this splendid four-bedroom property can sleep six people, perfect for an extended family or group getaway.

On the driveway that’s shared with adjacent property, you can park up to two cars. As you walk into the entrance, stunning coastal views from the living area draw you into the open plan kitchen/dining/living room. This social lounge with spectacular views has comfortable seating, and a door leads out to the terrace. The modern, well equipped kitchen has a window that looks out to sea, for hassle-free cooking with a view. Dining area has table and chairs to sit eight comfortably. The property has four delightful bedrooms. The master bedroom has a lovely King-size bed and en suite shower room with wc. A second bedroom has a comfortable double bed, and the third bedroom is a twin room. An additional bedroom has a single bed for those that like some ‘me time’. The bathroom houses a thermostatic shower and bath for soaking tired limbs after walking the South West Coast Path. In the hallway there is a separate, handy cloakroom with a w.c.

To the outside of the property there is a terrace, sheltered by protective glass balustrading, so you can stay in the sun for longer on breezy days. Outside there is table and chairs, as well as a built-in barbecue. Beyond the terrace, there is a large sloping lawn with flower beds.

The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.

But this time as soon as I opened the door I could tell it was grubby, it smelt damp and was a bit doggy in smell and there was dog hair on sofas. This probably wouldn’t bother those taking pets but both my husband and I are allergic. I would say however that as soon as we told Sykes they sent someone out to redo the living area. Which was great but in general I would say it wasn’t as clean as in previous years.

Whilst I appreciate that sykes have no control over the cleaning of these properties someone seriously needs to check on the people who clean them because on arrival we looked at the info booklet for rules and regs and it states leaving the place as we found it which would not please the next customer, because we found stale bread in the bread bin, the toast rack was dirty, and there were hairs on one of the double beds, also, the description is not exactly correct because it doesn't state that the garden is shared, this is vital because if one family has dogs and the neighbour doesn't it could cause a problem, the location and views are unquestionably spectacular and it's a shame certain things spoilt the experience, finally two points to consider. 1. At a property costing £2500 For 1 week you should not have to make a phone call to raise heating temperature, that is disgusting. 2. For the same reason (cost) you would expect a small welcome pack, I.e. milk, sugar, bread , because invariably when people arrive at the property with today's traffic problems they will get there late, therefore not be able to purchase, even if the rule is that you replace them on leaving the property, just a suggestion, many thanks, Tony.

It’s great to sit and watch the surfers and the waves roll in. Perfect for sunsets too. We found the property comfortable and cosy, everything was clean and tidy with ample amenities. Parking is great and the outside patio is perfect to enjoy the views. We will visit again.
