The place was absolutely filthy. I mean proper filthy. Bathroom, kitchen, floors, worktop, even the dishes were dirty. The welcome book said to contact the house manager if any problems. I decided not to do so for various reasons. Firstly I didn't have much faith in a house manager who could let a property out like this and it made me wonder if the owner even knew? Contracting out to others can be a minefield so I decided to clean what I needed, get on with holiday and contact the owner on my return home. We only had 6 days. We also have 3 nervous dogs which, if you know then you'll understand that decisions are often made around them. There is also, I believe, a fly nest in the living room chimney. I contacted the owner 2 days after getting back and to my astonishment they responded saying that they had been unhappy with their cleaners and had sacked them. I was totally insulted that they knew about the lack of cleanliness and yet saw fit to let it out anyway. I replied saying that I thought they at least should look at some recompense. I was told that I should take this up with Sykes. I did so however 3 days later from contacting Sykes and I've heard nothing. I'm not so angry now and so don't care about recompense, I can't be bothered using the energy on it. However I hope nobody else has this problem. The house itself is a bit tired, the beds are not comfortable and there are exposed electrical wires in the bathroom cupboard. I could actually have overlooked all of this because the house is in a great location. Such a shame

Parking is about quarter of a mile away, which is a bit inconvenient. The cottage was clean and had all we needed. Downside was a very steep stair and a back door that was difficult to open. There were several maintenance issues which we have reported to the owners who have said they will look into them. Not sure its somewhere I would want to take a young child but our 12 year old grandson loved it.
