Isaac's Byre was once part of a bastle house (or fortified farmhouse), built during the turbulent 16th century to withstand the raids of the notorious Border Reivers. The cottage has now been lovingly converted to provide quality self catering accommodation with excellent eco-friendly credentials. It is the perfect location from which to explore the North Pennine AONB, the beautiful Eden Valley, the Lakes, the Northumberland National Park and the Scottish borders.

Set in stunning countryside, the cottage provides an idyllic rural escape. There are fabulous walks straight from your doorstep - explore steep wooded gorges and high moor. The spectacular Ashgill Force thunders over its limestone lip just 1.5 miles away. Needless to say the area is a haven for wildlife – keep your eyes open for the red squirrels! The moorlands provide habitat for the red and black grouse, curlew, golden plover and for birds of prey such as merlin and peregrine.

The Pennine Way and C2C long distance cycle route run through the village of Garrigill. Cycle hire is available 3 miles away, electric by cycle hire 1 mile in Garrigill and secure cycle storage is provided at the Byre. Within ¼ mile is a private pool and sauna which you can hire for exclusive use by the hour. The village also has a local pub and shop.

The historic market town of Alston is just 4 miles away, its picturesque streets much favoured as a location for period dramas. You will find plenty of independent shops, galleries and great places to eat. Further afield you can get to both Carlisle or Durham in about an hour.

The area is steeped in history: explore the ancient Epiacum Roman fort , take a trip on the South Tynedale Railway England's highest narrow gauge railway or take a mine tour at Killhope mines. The medieval splendour of Raby Castle is just under an hour away.

The accommodation consists of:

-Open plan kitchen/dining/living room with well equipped kitchen with range cooker, dining table with 6 chairs and two cosy sofas and a wood burning stove. The living room has a large flat screen TV with DVD player and CD player and satellite TV. Ground floor bathroom.
-3 bedrooms ;Ground floor double (can be double or twin), upstairs double with character sloping ceilings and ensuite, 1 twin bedroom with shower room.

-Enclosed garden, patio and furniture. Barbecue. Parking (3 cars).
-Electricity car charging point.
-Secure cycle storage
-unbroken views of the South Tube valley

Visit Isaac’s Byre for a cosy winter break. The cottage is insulated to a high standard and the large wood burning stove and a complimentary supply of logs will keep you extra toasty in the evenings. The cottage is heated by Ground Source Heat pump which provides central heating and plenty of hot water.
