Single holiday let sleeping up to 4 guestsHog Cottage is a beautiful wisteria covered cottage with plenty of charm and an abundance of character.
Located at the top of a steep hill with fabulous views over the attractive market town of Wirksworth, this charming property has been cleverly converted from two factory workers cottages. Inside, traditional features mix with 21st century comfort. The owner has paid great attention to detail with lovely furnishings, and the little personal touches make this a very special place to stay.
The lovely views and cosy atmosphere make this the perfect cottage for a romantic getaway - couples will even receive a bottle of bubbly and chocolates from the owner! For the ultimate relaxing break - why not arrange for an in-house beauty treatment?
Gorsey Bank is a hamlet on the outskirts of the old market town of Wirksworth. Clinging to the sides of the hill, the higgledy piggledy nature of the hamlet has caused it to be likened to a Cornish fishing village without the sea!
There are some great places to eat nearby - La Mistral, an award winning French style bistro is just a 10 minute walk away and you’ll find plenty of great pubs within a 10 mile drive.
Wirksworth itself is a bustling town with a network of quaint lanes yards and alleys. A popular base for exploring the Peak District – the town is certainly worth exploring in its own right. It boasts an annual well dressing ceremony and carnival and in September the town hosts a prestigious Arts Festival.
The National Park offers a spectacular landscape of wild moor and open grassland, wooded cloughs, river gorges and rolling farmland – there is always something to take your breath away. There are plenty of opportunities for adrenaline activities and cyclists should check out the Monsal, Tissington and High Peak Trails and the Manifold Track.
Nearby Carsington Water (just 10 minutes drive) offers sailing, windsurfing and canoeing.
For a spot of retail therapy, the spa town of Matlock is only 6 miles away, the ‘antiques’ town of Ashbourne a 20 minute drive from the cottage. Bakewell and Buxton are both within 20 miles.
The accommodation consists of:
• Cosy snug with desk and easy chairs
• Pretty, light filled beamed sitting room with gas ’living flame’ fire
• Newly fitted kitchen
• Dining room with stone walls, high ceiling and exposed beams
• 1 King size double bedroom with colour TV/DVD
• 1 double bedroom with single beds or King Size.
• Bathroom with bath and power shower.
• Secure patio area with bistro table and chairs.
• Front cottage garden with sitting area and BBQ.
Because of the cottage’s hilltop location, the entrance road to the cottage is very steep and narrow. While there is parking for one car on the lane outside the cottage some guests find the hill a challenging experience and prefer to park at the bottom of Gorsey Bank.
