It the perfect place to relax and appreciate the picturesque surrounding countryside. This extremely comfortable 3 bedroomed cottage is in fact the north wing of an Edwardian former hunting lodge and is set in 100 acres of grounds. It has been carefully renovated in a cosy country style and is very well equipped with double glazing, central heating and a woodburning stove in the lounge. Local activities include walking, golfing, fishing, horse riding and on and off road cycling.
The cottage consists of 1 Double Bedroom and 2 Twin Bedrooms all of which are situated upstairs. There is also a bathroom upstairs with an overhead electric shower. The kitchen includes a cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and iron. There is a dining seating for 6 located in the bright and spacious kitchen. Also provided are satellite TV and DVD.
Outside there is a private garden with BBQ, garden furniture and easy and ample parking. Guests are welcome to fish for brown and rainbow trout in the Shankend pond or if they prefer, have a paddle in the kayaks.
This region is not only full of activity and heritage, but also acts as a wonderful base from which to explore the nearby towns and villages, with an abundance of good quality cafes, restaurants and pubs. Edinburgh, Carlisle, Newcastle and the Northumbrian coast are all within an easy drive.
With its own fenced garden, the cottage sits in front of the stunning Shankend Viaduct, a magnificent 15 arched bridge on the disused Waverley Line. The nearby towns of Hawick, Jedburgh, Melrose and Kelso are a mecca for famous knitwear firms and specialist shops where you will find cashmere, woollens and the finest tweed. Also nearby are award winning parks, historic castles, abbeys and stately homes. There are over 20 golf courses around the Scottish Borders, and excellent salmon and trout fishing in our own loch on your doorstep and in the nearby rivers and lochs.
Pets are welcome at Shankend (by prior arrangement). There are great paths and tracks ideal for walking or riding starting right from the doorstep. The mountain biking is superb, with 7 Stanes less than 20 minutes away with its world class trails.
