Single holiday let sleeping up to 22 guests

The Anchor is ideal for large group self catering holidays. It was the village pub for over 300 years and now sleeps up to 22 guests in 8 bedrooms.

The setting and location are stunning and there are beautiful walks direct from the door. The accommodation in this cosy converted pub is arranged over two floors and the property is fully equipped for 20 people to eat, sleep, and dine in total comfort.

There are two sitting rooms, both with wood burners and window seats, a bar and a snug which means there’s space when needed though all guests can eat together at one table in the dramatic and atmospheric barrel-vaulted dining room.

Many of the original features and decor have been retained with the renovation. The accommodation comprises 8 bedrooms, with a couple of cots, and everyone gets their own bathroom: 6 of the 8 bedrooms are en suite while the others have one opposite. One bedroom is on the ground floor - the snug housing a sofa-bed with adjoining bathroom and loo which is also handy for evening bath time for children. There is also an extra wc cloakroom with disabled separate lavatory.

The Dining Room is in the oldest part of the house with vaulted ceiling, decorative lights and its own old bar and barrel holders recovered from the former pub days,  retained for character and convenience. The table can comfortably seat 20 and the whole experience will make you think you’ve stepped back in time. You will be staying in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley surrounded by some of Britain’s loveliest unspoilt countryside.

If you want to stay home, you couldn’t have a better spot: play games, relax in the hot tub, sit in the garden soaking up the sun, barbecue on the terrace, stroll down to the river bank, and call in at the Forge Hammer for a quick drink and chat with the locals – you’d be hard pushed to find a lovelier spot and if catching up with friends and family is your object this is the place to do it.

You can just take in the beauty of the surroundings and use the chance to spend time together or maybe take a stroll down to the pub and wander alongside the river. Within a 10 minute drive you can be at magical Puzzlewood (where they filmed Harry Potter and Star Wars) Dean Forest Railway, Perrygrove Railway, Clearwell Caves, Goodrich Castle, Dean Heritage Centre, Hopewell Colliery Museum, beautiful Symonds Yat Rock and many many more.

For those seeking a bit more adventure The Anchor is located at the heart of one of the UK’s bestspots for outdoor activity. On your doorstep you can find cycle hire and wonderful forest trails for all ages including the well known Family Trail. You can just walk down along the river or you could launch a canoe. Try one of Britain’s best long distance walks  the Wye Valley Walk: combine that with the walks through the Forest and you could spend weeks here and not repeat yourself. Also within a 10 minute drive are Climbing, Segue Hire, Off Roading, Fishing, Golf, Zip wire, Riding, Paint balling, the list is huge.

Where eating and drinking are concerned you are spoilt for choice. Within 5 minutes walk you’ll find the Forge Hammer and River Spice Restaurant, a fantastic combination of a proper old school pub with an excellent  Indian Restaurant and the Garden Cafe, a beautiful organic restaurant. Within 5 minutes drive you’ll find the Mill Race, the Inn on the Wye and the Old Hostelrie at Goodrich a short walk from the castle.

Despite The Anchor having everything you need to cater for yourselves you might want caterers to cook for you and if so this can be arranged.
