With a hot tub seating seven, a sauna, a private pool and tennis court, Ormidale has some of the best facilities in Scotland. Set in grounds of 23 acres and a mile above the head of Loch Riddon the property enjoys total privacy, looking down the glen to the river Ruel. Accessed via a ferry from Colintraive, Ormidale House nestles in some of the prettiest scenery in Scotland.
Ormidale is only an hour and a half from Glasgow. Argyll benefits from a very mild micro-climate and The Kyles of Bute are well known with both walkers and sailors as some of the most stunning coastlines in Scotland. The Cowal peninsula is the ideal base for an a holiday with fantastic wildlife, numerous gardens and other tourist attractions to visit, and many sporting activities are catered for.
Inverary and Loch Lomond are only 45 minutes away and Dunoon is just under half an hour away, with Glen Coe about an hour and a half. Stirling, Oban or Fort William are all under two hours drive. Loch Ness and Edinburgh can be reached in less than 2 and a half hours.
The house has been luxuriously equipped and furnished, with many antiques. There are new, comfortable beds with gorgeous goose-down and feather duvets and bed-linen, original Scottish art on the walls, and crystal for the table. The house is as comfortable and well-equipped and relaxing as possible without having any of the formality of a stately home.
An indoor heated swimming pool is shared between the three houses on the estate. Each house is offered their own hour of exclusive swimming time in the morning and in the afternoon. Outside those six hours, the pool is open to all.
The gardens are beautiful, with much to explore and places to relax in. Set amidst 20 acres of woodland, and enjoying lovely views across the glen and mountains, the gardens are mainly laid to lawn and terrace with hydrangeas, rhodedendron and azalea. Our own woods are next to thousands of acres of forestry commission land through which guests are welcome to wander. A trampoline, croquet set and football goal will keep the children amused.
The Dining Hall seats up to 24 at one four-leaf extendable table, and has a wood-burning stove.
The Kitchen offers a 4 oven Aga and the Breakfast Room seats 14 guests with a door leading to the terrace and garden. The Sitting Room/TV Rooms benefits from full Sky TV package, plus a home cinema surround-sound DVD/CD system. The Drawing Room has an open fire as has the Billiard Room which also has an original full size billiard table, There is a Playroom with electric air hockey, and multi-function games table.
Real flexibility can be offered by the way the rooms have been set up.. Two of the rooms offer twin beds, three are set up with king-size doubles, and one as a quadruple bunk room. The other 7 bedrooms can be set up as super-kingsize doubles, twins, or even triples. With the exception of two of the bedrooms all have either an ensuite bathroom or a basin. There are 4 further bathrooms, two separate wc's, and a sauna. Altogether, the house has 9 showers and 10 wc's.
We also have a 10 person Sauna, a Utility Room, a Drying room, two downstairs cloak rooms, a Table-tennis Room and Wine cellar, Five sets of golf clubs and 10 bikes are available for visitors use.
