We live on the edge of Snowdonia National park in 10 acres of parkland in an area of outstanding natural beauty at the foot of the high mountains of Central Snowdonia and not far from the coastal attractions of Anglesey.

Bryn Llys is our large cottage that sleeps up to 14. There is level access to the large dining room that can seat 18 in comfort. Opening from the dining room are a toilet and an utility room that has clothes washing facilities. Two shallow steps lead to the kitchen. This has an electric range cooker, a dish washer, a fridge and a freezer, a microwave, a toaster and an electric kettle. Stairs lead up to the lounge on the first floor. This has a TV and a drinks fridge and leather suites that will seat 15 in comfort. Also on the first floor is a room that is usually configured for table tennis but can be used as a small lecture room. The house has a row of five ground floor en-suite bedrooms that all open to the outside. Three of the bedrooms have twin beds. The other two are family rooms that have a twin bed on the ground floor and twin beds on a mezzanine floor. All the bedrooms have flat screen TVs, tea-making facilities and en-suit toilet and shower rooms. The only bath is in one of the family rooms.

We built this cottage some 16 years ago on the base of an old building – using traditional materials and preserving the appearance but ensuring modern facilities. The five bedrooms have level access from a covered way that connects at one end to the car park by a short 1:12 ramp. At the other end, it leads into the dining room. A well-protected pond alongside the covered way is overlooked by a patio and an external seating area.

Hafan, our smaller cottage, is attached to Bryn Llys and is of similar vintage and construction. It is designed to suit the mobility-impaired guest as well as the able bodied. A 1:12 ramp from the car park leads to a small terrace. From this there is level access to the lounge, the kitchen/diner, the master bedroom and the wet room.

The lounge has a modern TV and a CD player. The kitchen has an electric range cooker, a fridge, a freezer and a dish washer as well as an electric kettle, a toaster and a microwave. The master bedroom has a double bed with a conforming mattress and a modern TV. There is easy access to the wet-room. Stairs from the lounge leads to an en-suite twin bedroom.

The ten acre grounds have enough of interest without leaving the park if necessary. They contain a lake of 1 acre and a CL touring caravan park of about 1 acre. The remainder contains gardens, a bird hide and paths where interesting wildlife can sometimes be seen. A woodland path leads into the centre of Bethesda. A 5-inch-gauge ride-on railway takes adults as well as children from a station near the houses past signal boxes, through a tunnel and over bridges along the side of the grounds for nearly half a mile. This is available for rides on occasions.

We are well-placed for traditional pastimes such as mountaineering, rock climbing, mine- exploration and cycling and for those interested in historic castles, narrow-gauge railways and famous gardens. Adventure activities have been recently developed all around us. These include Velocity Zip World, which is a mile away from us, Bounce Below in slate caverns, High Ropes in a forest and Surf Snowdonia in a custom-built lagoon. We are close to Anglesey with its beaches, coastal path and sea kayaking and fishing. What more could be asked for?
