Accommodation

Chateau and Coach House - sleep 27
Chateau Only - sleeps 18
Coach House - sleeps 9

The ground floor is elegant, yet intimate with 12' ceilings and long windows. Most walls are covered with stretched silk tissue tondu, large period mirrors over marble stone fireplaces and oil paintings adorn the walls. Most rooms have an appropriate chandelier. There is full central heating throughout, tapestries adorn the flagstone hallway and main staircase and a crystal chandelier hangs from the 32' ceiling. The well-lit salon to the left of the hall has comfortable seating in front of a working fireplace. On either side of the fireplace are two doors artfully concealed in the walnut wood panelling that leads to two rooms, one to the library/games room that has French doors opening on to the terrace and garden. The other opens to a warm television room, with a long shaped sofa on which to watch satellite TV. To provide additional accommodation, there is also the option of adding a queen bed to the TV room and move the sofa bed in the bureau.

Adjacent is a sunny and comfortable fully equipped study that has a single sofa bed and adjacent to the study is a small hall off of which there is a separate WC and a separate white tiled bathroom and shower. This suite of rooms is suitable for a guest who prefers not to take the stairs to an upstairs bedroom. To the right of the entry hall is an elegant dining room with long mahogany table and upholstered chairs to seat 16. An enormous gilded mirror hangs above an exquisitely carved fireplace mantle of blue Belgian marble. In summer the French doors can be opened to bring in fresh breezes from the courtyard. While the dining room is the perfect venue for a dinner party, the directly adjacent Breakfast Room with its south and west facing windows is the bright and informal place for meals. With glass doors opening to a pretty terrace, and a huge stone fireplace, the aged-pine farm table can seat up to 14.

The kitchen is next to the Breakfast room and is large enough to give cookery classes. The 4'x8' granite slab, which can be used as a workspace or breakfast table, dominates the centre of the room. For barbecuing there is an open fireplace with a rotating spit, and next to it a professional-level La Cornue stove with five gas burners, a griddle and two ovens, one of which is electric.  Furthermore there is a washing machine and dryer to supplement the laundry room near the Orangery. Just off the kitchen is a WC. There is a wall mounted TV for the chef to stay abreast of the world news.

The first floor is approached either via the grand staircase from the entry hall or by a sturdy wood circular staircase with wide steps and a railing. On a landing halfway up the main staircase is an attractive guest WC. There are 5 ensuite bedrooms and each is equally luxurious with their own decorative scheme, all covered with gold silk tissue tondu, and designed for occupancy by a couple. Each room is exceptionally spacious, with high ceilings, a fireplace with a marble mantle, thick wall to wall carpeting, and lovely views of the garden or courtyard. Each bedroom is handsomely furnished with substantial pieces that include an armoire (unless there is an adjacent dressing room) chest of drawers and a seating area. All have their own en-suite bath with tub or marble stall shower, and WC. Each of the 5 bedrooms is very private, has a king-size bed and 2 of them have a small balcony overlooking the rose garden.

The second floor can be reached by a circular stairway that leads from the hall on the ground floor or from the first floor. There are 3 further bedrooms on the upper floor. The fifth bedroom sometimes referred to as the "honeymoon suite" is situated in the tower between the first floor and the top floor. It has a canopied super king-sized (6'8"square) four poster bed with a large fireplace. There are steps up to an en-suite bathroom that has a shower with a separate WC and bidet. This double aspect room enjoys far reaching views of the countryside over the tops of the trees. With deep wall to wall carpeting this room is an oasis of calm. The top floor has 3 twin bedded rooms sharing the 6th bathroom. These rooms, particularly bedroom 6, are large and well furnished.

At the end of the antique tiled passage is a very large high ceilinged room that has a multiplicity of uses. At one end there is a fully equipped kitchen that is suitable for preparation of a family meal or for a mother's help to prepare an evening supper for young children. This room is carpeted throughout, and has a large sofa, armchairs and coffee table as well as satellite TV and VCR player.

Recreational facilities at the Chateau include snooker, darts, table soccer and a selection of board games. There is a stereo/CD player and a telephone for calling throughout the property. The beams of the vaulted ceiling are said to have once been the ribs of a sailing ship; this is a remarkable piece of craftsmanship. The chateau has super-fast Wi-Fi throughout, including the swimming pool area.

The spacious Coach House is a multi-purpose structure, a place for overflow guests; for a family that wants its own separate living quarters, or a very comfortable residence for staff members who accompany the group. The decor is clean and simple, the furnishings attractive and comfortable, and the overall ambiance refreshingly contemporary. Beamed ceilings and white tile floors add a country feeling to the house.

The ground floor includes a living and dining area and a well-lit conservatory with windows on all sides, permitting extensive garden views. The living room has 3 comfortable sofas, one of which can be made into a single bed. The conservatory also has a sitting area with a sofa and armchairs. The kitchen is modern and beautifully appointed and has a full array of appliances. There is a washing machine and the drier is in the conservatory. Other amenities include television with satellite reception (including CNN), full stereo system and telephone with intercom to the Chateau. There is a separate WC on the ground floor.

On the upper level are three bedrooms, two with twin beds and the third with a queen-sized bed (English king size). The modern bathroom, tiled in white, has a tub and overhead shower. The Coach House has its own private garden and patio area with a barbecue.

The orangery and pool are fantastic additions to the Chateau Gombardy estate. The south facing orangery receives light all day long; the 1,000 square foot structure has high ceilings, limestone floors and exposed stone walls that lie along one side of the flagstone deck surrounding the 23' x 49' pool. There are 4 arched glass doors that open onto the pool deck, allowing guests to enjoy meals there. There are many lounge chairs, a hammock and large parasols for relaxing around the pool.

The concept underlying the orangery, consistent with the theme of luxurious comfort at the chateau, is to provide every amenity one might need to spend an entire day poolside without having to return to the chateau. Amenities include a shower and WC, an exercise machine, table tennis, and a kitchen with granite counters and a two burner stove, microwave oven, dishwasher and refrigerator. For barbecuing there are two large gas grills that can be wheeled onto the pool deck. Adjacent to the orangery there is a large laundry room with two heavy duty American washing machine and two separate tumbler dryers. Also in the laundry room is a large two door refrigerator with indoor ice-maker, and an additional refrigerator for cool drinks. Ironing facilities are available in the laundry room. The orangery is multi-purpose, for example a wedding or conference could use it for cocktails or for meetings, even a dance floor at a celebratory event. You can also enjoy the brand new hard court tennis facility on site.

The Chapel has been fully restored and is located on the site of a XIth century chapel that was dedicated to St. Mark. This Chapel, an impeccably renovated little jewel of Gothic architecture with a vaulted wood ceiling and tofu stone walls, all skilfully illuminated by concealed lights installed at the top of the walls, is situated some 40 metres from the Chateau. About 50/70 people can be seated on rows of wooden pews and chairs facing the altar. On the other hand the chapel has a solemn character, a place where one may retreat for a moment of quiet reflection, the acoustics are truly remarkable for a building of this size, and it is possible to imagine you are in a huge lofty cathedral.
The gardens are a real bonus of this chateau experience. It is an enclosed and totally private estate of sweeping lawns, fruit orchards, stands of chestnut, poplar, linden and pine trees, flower gardens and lawns dappled with shade from century old trees; a feature that makes the Chateau especially appealing is its extraordinary rose garden. The elaborate arrangement of arches, benches, shallow canals and fountains covers a huge area with more than 6,000 roses between the pool and the tall hedge that borders the front of the property. It is particularly suitable for larger social functions. The garden can be illuminated at night.

The lake has a 25 ft. fountain that provides a focal point amongst the weeping willows. The fountains and lampposts, reminiscent of 19th century Paris, add to the old world ambiance. The fountain, in a flower garden that surrounds a gracious terrace where guests may dine outdoors, creates the sound of softly running water in the courtyard and gardens. The terrace is reached by French doors from the breakfast room. A very special feature is the opportunity to grab a chair, a book or something similar, and go and sit in the shade under a tree or out in the sun and enjoy total tranquillity.
