The owner is a keen angler, and with two boats at his disposal, is happy to take you out on a fishing trip to one of the many local lakes. The village of Ballinamuck, and its range of amenities, is just a short walk from your charming country cottage. Surrounded by attractive scenery dotted with tranquil lakes and low-lying hills, there are plentiful walks and cycling routes to discover practically from the door. Ballinamuck Battle Heritage Centre tells the tale of this ancient village, before enjoying one of the historic walks around the battlefield. Spend the day in Carrick-on-Shannon, a popular inland resort just over half an hours drive away, with its vibrant music and arts scene and busy marina where youll find excellent restaurants. With plentiful activities and attractions to suit all ages within easy reach, including horse riding, golf, archery and a whole range of watersports to enjoy, this welcoming holiday promises a perfect base for an active getaway. The village of Ballinamuck is situated in the north of County Longford. Literally translated to mouth of the ford of the pig, Ballinamuck is a wonderful area to discover the mass of farmland, lakes, hills and pristine boglands and was once the site of the Battle of Ballinamuck, with a local heritage centre housing an interesting exhibition. Fishing, cycling and walking are very popular in this region, with endless miles of unspoilt countryside to discover and explore.

It really needs updating. The crockery was very mismatched and some of it chipped. We had to wash cups and glasses before using them. Sean the owner is a lovely friendly guy, he made us feel very welcome and said if you need anything just let me know. So we asked if we could have the heating on morning and night, but it was never on in the morning and only occasionally in the evening, even though we asked twice. The cottage was convenient for visiting Longford though.
