Dating back to the 17th century, the villa features both nods to the past and touches of modern convenience throughout its design and carefully selected furnishings. The large plot also has a separate cottage and garden with swimming pool, barbecue area and games room.

To the ground floor of the villa is a spacious living room with comfortable seating and a kitchen featuring a dining table and chairs. There's also a door from the kitchen that leads out onto a large patio. A shower room is ideal for a quick refresh after a long day exploring the local area, or to wipe down muddy boots from a day's hiking.

The upstairs space has been designed to make the most of the villa's idyllic setting with balconies in almost every room. A master double bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and door opening onto a covered terrace. The living room is beautifully designed, with two areas of seating and an open fireplace as a lovely focal point.

One of the most stunning must-sees in Ponte de Lima is the Igreja Matriz de Ponte de Lima. This 15th-century church was modified during the 1700s, creating a beautiful mix of eras and styles. The stained glass windows and interior carvings are particularly impressive.

If you visit the town between May and October, then you'll be treated to the vibrant annual Festival Internacional de Jardins within the Botanical Gardens. Exhibition gardens on various themes can be seen as you walk around, showcasing some truly innovative creations. Even if you visit when the festival is not on, the gardens are a lovely place to sit and relax.
