Commonhall Cottage sleeping up to 4 guests

Built in 1889 and designed by Thomas Lockwood, this Grade II listed building enjoys a fabulous location in the heart of the city centre. This charming cottage is situated within the city walls and provides a fantastic base for enjoying all that Chester has to offer. The Roodee racecourse, River Dee, Grosvenor Museum, Roman Amphitheatre and Chester Cathedral are all just a few minutes' walk from this central yet tucked away cul-de-sac location. Guests can enjoy a cosy sitting room complete with wood burning stove, with a well-equipped kitchen and dining area to cater for all your culinary needs. Upstairs, the king-size master bedroom, twin room and bathroom complete the accommodation. To the rear is a private courtyard with garden furniture where you can sit in the sunshine and enjoy alfresco dining. Chester is home to excellent shopping and there are plenty of pubs and restaurants to choose from. Why not venture a little further and visit the world-renowned Chester Zoo, a wonderful choice for all ages, or hire a canal boat for the day and venture along the Shropshire Union Canal? This wonderful cottage has something for everyone and can be enjoyed by guests all year round.

Chester has quite rightly been described as 'the jewel of the North-West of England'. Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the city is that within a very small area there is evidence of every period of history - from the old walls and amphitheatre of Roman times, through medieval churches, Elizabethan timber-framed town houses and Georgian terraces, to Victorian restorations and 21st century architecture. The city has much to offer the tourist, including excellent shopping in and around the famous Tudor 'Rows' and lovely walks along the Roman Walls, beside the River Dee and through the picturesque Grosvenor Park.

    Mrs Aird – 1 Sep 2019
" The paintwork on the window frames needs attention Curtains are needed at the windows as well as the blinds as the blind in the double bedroom was broken and could not be raised "
    Ms Fox – 1 May 2019
" Also winter weight bedding but no alternative, very hot in summer. no toiletries which are usually provided. Kitchen well provided with pans etc and good fridge freezer. "
    Mrs Head – 1 Apr 2019
" The only downside was the parking, from what I can see the prices have increased fairly sharply since the copy I saw online as payment only covers until the middle of the night then starts again. Not insurmountable, we parked until 8am and then moved around 30 min free parking until we headed out for the day and returned after 6pm. We then used the Grovsner Shopping Centre carpark which is cheaper for rolling 24 hour periods than the others and fairly close. The hosts were very accomodating and left great recommendations. Our experience with was shocking, we booked a cottage in a small village for a much needed quiet rest after a period of prolonged illness but they failed to notify us that the property owners had cancelled our booking as they couldn't get a cleaner in, so we arrived to a cottage with dirty carpets, towels on the floor and unmade beds at 5pm Good Friday after a long journey and day out. After 3 hours of to and froing and much "negotitation" we were offered the Chester property which was excellent but not the much needed rest that had been planned. "
    Mr Lewis – 1 Dec 2018
"However, the property is promoted as having parking but this is only available from 6pm till 8am, and so unless you are disabled you need to move the car, and there was nothing in the immediate location. The house is lovely and the log burner is very cosy (don't forget to take logs if you're staying for more than one day). Everything was lovely and the location is super for the town centre. ..."
    Mrs Stubbs – 1 Oct 2018
"Within a few steps of the front door you are right in the middle of Chester. It was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The pancake shop a few doors down is well worth a visit! It was cold weather during our visit but the cottage is stocked with all you need to light the wood burning stove which we did in the evenings. We moved our car to the free parking spaces overnight and then paid to park in a nearby car park during the day."

    Mr Cross – 1 Aug 2018
"The cottage was in an ideal location and the listing described it well. Just a few comments about the cottage: 1. There was no lock on the bathroom door 2. Although there were instructions about recycling there were no recycling boxes available 3. Car parking is difficult"

    - Mrs Francis-burns, June 2018

"Perfect for any family wanting to be in the heart of Chester. Great shopping and restuarants on our doorstep. The cottage offered 99% of what we needed, it was clean and very comfortable. We felt it offered excellent value."

The house is lovely and the log burner is very cosy (don't forget to take logs if you're staying for more than one day). Everything was lovely and the location is super for the town centre. This lovely landlord provides coffee and tea bags and washing up products, which is great as not all do! We had a lovely time"
    - Mr Seal, December 2018
".. It's located very close to the center of Chester Center Cross which gives it access to all that Chester has to offer. We found so much to love about the cottage, from the historic feel with the modern tasteful updates to having our own private home away from home. Definitely will recommend this place to others that want a holiday home in Chester, where one can avoid staying in a hotel."
    - Mr Ramsay, October 2019
"The accommodation itself is very good. The kitchen dinning room is well equipped with all the practical necessities, including a washer. The front living room was spacious and allowed for relaxing evenings at the end of busy days exploring. The upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms were very clean and of sufficient size. If I was to offer one bit of advice, it would be to replace the twin mattresses - the memory foam has lost its memory and are pretty lumpy and soggy at this point. Also, it should ..."
