About this property

Just over six miles from the village of Caldbeck, the delightful Stockwell Hall Cottage offers you the chance to be on the doorstep of the Lake District.

Set on a small holding that allows you to visit the animals on site, this cottage has been lovingly renovated from the Grade II listed barn it was before, maintaining its superb original features throughout with modern living. This makes this the perfect destination for families looking for a peaceful holiday enjoying the countryside.

This outstanding cottage really makes this the perfect place to relax; on the ground floor, you have a well-equipped kitchen, a beautifully finished double bedroom and twin bedroom, and a bathroom with WC, basin, heated towel rail and an old fashioned roll top bath. The first floor has a sitting room with exposed beams and a media system, where you are treated with the outstanding views of the surrounding countryside, perfect for the end of your day. There is also another double bedroom and an additional shower room with WC and Basin.

Outside, you have a patio that overlooks a large garden with a BBQ and garden furniture, perfect for a family evening. The cottage offers an additional heated outhouse for extra storage of any clothing or footwear that may need drying and private parking for up to three cars.

The cottage's location is perfect for those looking to enjoy a great walking holiday, with the Lake District literally on your doorstep. A short drive of fifteen minutes will take you to the village of Caldbeck with its shops, pubs and restaurants.

Short drives will take you to Ullswater or, for that really breathtaking experience, you could visit the peaks of Skiddaw or Blencartha. For those looking for a bit of hustle and bustle, Keswick and Carlisle are all within easy reach.

Stockwell Hall Cottage makes a great base for a family looking to have a holiday that offers plenty of adventure and enough peace and quiet to appreciate the stunning landscape.

Carlisle is set in the county of Cumbria, situated just 10 miles south of the Scottish Borders and is nicknamed the Border City. During Roman times the town was established to serve the forts for Hadrian's Wall, which runs east from the city across the country to Wallsend on the east coast and today is recognised as a World Heritage Site. During the Middle Ages, due to its proximity to the Kingdom of Scotland, Carlisle became an important military stronghold and Carlisle Castle, still relatively intact, was built in 1092 by William Rufus, after once serving as a prison for Mary, Queen of Scots. The castle now houses the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment and the Border Regiment Museum. In the early 12th century Henry I allowed the foundation of a priory in Carlisle and the town gained the status of a diocese in 1122, resulting in the priory becoming Carlisle Cathedral. The Settle to Carlisle railway runs across some of the most breathtaking scenery to the popular Yorkshire town and Carlisle Racecourse has a packed fixture list including Ladies Day and evening fixtures. Within driving distance is the Victorian seaside town of Silloth and just over the border is Gretna Green, where you'll find the Gretna Gateway Shopping Centre and Anvil Hall, the famous wedding venue.

The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed. Friendly hosts left us a very much appreciated welcome basket. Plenty to see and do in the local area.

Very well equipped even for cooking over Christmas! Lovely owners who were on hand if required but not intrusive in any way. Very clean with all comforts of home and decked out nicely for Christmas with a festive welcome pack. Highly recommended.
