Driftwood Cottage sleeping up to 5 guests

Bardsea 2 miles. This is a stunning beach-style cottage, nestling on the shore overlooking Morecambe Bay, perfectly located for beachcombing and watching the sunset at the end of the day. Carefully appointed throughout to provide bright and airy accommodation, this Lake District cottage is perfect for families wishing to enjoy the seaside location with the benefit of being on the doorstep of the beautiful Lake District National Park. Set on the ground floor, this Baycliff cottage has three bedrooms with an open plan living area with large picture windows looking out across the sea; the ideal spot to set up the telescope and focus in on the local wildlife, plus the cosy living area has a woodburner, perfect for chilly winter nights. Outside this Baycliff cottage by the sea is a large patio area with direct access on to the beach; perfect for relaxing in this quiet oasis. The quiet village of Baycliff is just a three-minute walk away and has a popular pub serving excellent food, a farm shop and a large play park for children. With the tip of Lake Windermere being 14 miles away, this coastal cottage near Bardsea is a perfect base for exploring the Lake District and visiting the popular villages of Ambleside, Bowness and Grasmere. For younger visitors, there is the South Lakes Animal Park and the Aquarium of the Lakes. The bustling town of Ulverston is just a ten-minute drive away, offering some excellent restaurants and shops, as well as a colourful calendar of festivals, including a Dickensian and Flag Festival, where you'll find a wonderful town atmosphere. The town also has The Laurel and Hardy Museum, a perfect pick-me-up on a wet day. This beachside cottage near Bardsea is a little gem to be enjoyed all year.

The village itself is located close to Furness Abbey, whilst the market town of Ulverston is just two miles away, and maintains its street market tradition, hosting one every Thursday and Saturday throughout the year. Ulverston is also the location for many festivals including an amazing lantern procession in November and a Dickensian weekend in early December. With all the attractions of the Lake District National Park within easy driving distance, and the sandy beaches of the Furness coast close by, this peaceful spot has plenty to offer.

    Mr Stones, May 2019 – 1 May 2019
" the cottage is very comfortable and the addition of a washer and dryer completes the facilities offered. "
    Ms Gregory – 1 Nov 2018
"The bathroom was like ice with no heating. The note book said not to use the washing machine but the information stated washing facilities. Found it not as good as other places I rented. Only 1toilet roll so bought more spent a fortune on logs to keep warm. I loved the setting of it ,but wouldn’t go back again."
    Mrs Johnston – 1 Sep 2018
"Welcome pack of wine and cookies and even treats for our 3 dogs which was a nice touch. Would definitely return in the future. Owner easily contactable and very helpful."
    Mr Parry – 1 Aug 2018
"Small double and very tight space. The bed abutted two walls on the side and base. If the one on the inside needed to get up in the night they had to climb over the other person so my husband moved into the single room. The bathroom needs a power shower/ wet room and/ or a bath with overhead shower. The present one is dated and weak. Beautiful view but pebble beach. Tricky reversing out of the property down a very narrow lane. We have always been delighted with properties but this was disappointing as it’s really more suited for two adults and a small family as a base with the current sleeping and bathroom arrangements. The owner very kindly left us welcom gifts. Thank you"
    Mr Senior – 1 Jul 2018
"Excellent quiet location with stunning views over Morecambe Bay. Easy access for sightseeing and local amenities."
    Mrs Mozdzynski – 1 Jul 2018
"Lovely property in idyllic situation. Well appointed and comfortable. Beautiful relaxing break."
    Mrs Davies – 1 Mar 2018

"Perfect peaceful and beautiful. Very relaxing"
    Mr Hatton – 1 Jan 2018
"Super location for both enjoying time by the sea and the fells and waters of Cumbria. Doggy heaven . I was so pleased i booked again ...can't ask for more ."
    Mrs Shearwood – 1 Jan 2018
"What a splendid cottage! The location is truly spectacular. If you're looking for tranquility, then look no further-this ticks all the boxes. The constantly changing light and mood of the landscape was just breathtaking. My husband and I had only one regret- that we were unable to stay longer. On arrival, the cottage was warm, fresh and spotlessly clean . The decor compliments the surroundings perfectly with lovely attention to detail. The bedrooms and soft furnishings were super- comfortable and welcoming. Nokosi, our Alaskan Malamute was in his element. Having the beach literally on the doorstep was absolutely perfect and we spent several hours each day walking and exploring the many miles of sand. This was our first UK break- it definitely won't be our last! We can't wait to return to Driftwood Cottage!"
    Mrs Hodgkinson
"Perfect location & great for dogs"
    - A FlipKey verified reviewer, December 2013
"It is a quaint little chalet right next to the beach. Fantastic views across the Bay of Morcombe. The windows in the chalet are south facing to lounge gets quiet warm in the day time. Decor in chalet is very nice good facilities. Free WiFi Bedrooms a little small but adequate. Beds very comfortable. Nice bedding. Electric storage heaters and a log burner heating was more than efficient. Lovely garden area to sit out in with ample of out side seating. Drive way into property is a little tight. Lane down to the property is very narrow. Good access to the South Lakes area few miles from Barrow in Furness and Ulverston. Really enjoyed my stay would defo like to use again. Owners leave you to get on and don't bother you, but any problems a phone call and they would do every effort to solve any issues."

"I have just got back from a 4 night stay at Driftwood Cottage with my husband, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, their two young children and two Whippets. It was a bit of a squeeze but we were out and about most of the time anyway. There isn't much to do within walking distance but we had two cars so wasn't much of an issue. We went to the local pubs Farmers Arms and the Ship Inn for tea both were lovely but preferred The Ship Inn as it was a bit more child friendly and owners were lovely. The cottage itself is beautiful, clean and well equipped. The owner Amy obviously pays attention to detail. The door handle broke and we reported it to . Amy rang us immediately and sorted out a locksmith to come and fix it. The wood burner was great and we sued it most nights as it warmed the entire cottage quickly. The dogs (and us!) loved having the beach on our doorstep for long windy walks. I would love to come back in the summer as I hear the beach is nice and quiet but it is all booked up till November! A sign of how great this place is. Tranquil, peaceful, relaxing stay away from the hustle and bustle. Will definitely be back soon!"
    - A FlipKey verified reviewer, August 2014
"Situated right on the beach which was a perfect location for walking the dogs. The cottage was very well equiped with a modern kitchen and comfortable bedrooms. The panoramic views from the lounge were superb. If you want a relaxing and tranquil break in easy reach of the Lake District this is the place for you with or without pets."
    - Mrs Burns-Sweeney, December 2015
"Fabulous stay! Would highly recommend Driftwood Cottage to people looking for a complete break from the stress of everyday life. Especially great for people with dogs, as the beach is seconds from the front door! Peaceful, quiet and pure stress-free heaven!"
    - Pumpk, January 2016
"Lovely cottage, very well appointed and right on the beach. We took our three dogs and went for long walks on the beach every day. In the afternoon we sat by the log burner and watched the tide come in - perfect. very quiet which is what we wanted and we went for visits to Ulveston and Kendal which are not far. We looked at re-booking before we left and the cottage was booked up until November! Just shows how lovely it is! could recommend highly enough, will definitely go back."
    - Mr Vaughan, September 2016
"Lane to cottage very narrow, should be included in advert in case of large vehicles. Also operating instructions should be available for electric cooker/hob. Update photo of cottage."
    - Mr Hopps, September 2016
"Beautiful views and sunrises. Moon and stars at night spectacular. Look closely and you will see shooting stars. Take the walk from the cottage (to the left) along the beach (takes under an hour) to the layby and find Roys Ice cream van. I have heard you can bump into deer on the path. 20 flavours of delicious ice cream. Across the road is Chill and Grill who also has a good selection of ice cream, slightly dearer than Roys, however the flavours are stronger. If you decide to go to the stone circle walk to the end of the field in the direction of Bardsea, turn left at the wall and walk 1/4 mile up the hill for some fantastic views of Ulverston and the Southern Lake District mountains. Some lovely quaint shops in Ulverston and a delicious pie shop half way up the main street a few shops away from the Co-op. Take a trip to the North end of Walney Island and you will be impressed by the Sunset and the patterns it makes on the water. With the windills in the background it makes a lovely shot for those interested in photography. All in all it is a lovely cottage offering many interesting locations within a short drive or walk away."
    - Mrs Brown, October 2016
"Perfect holiday Fantastic location peaceful and perfect views. This was my second visit to driftwood cottage and it won't be my last"
    - Mr Stanley, November 2016
"Fabulous views right on the edge of morcambe bay, very cosy. Lane can be tight for bigger cars. Highly recommended."
    - Mr Round, December 2016
"Beautiful cottage and excellent location! Couldn't fault it."
    - Mrs Whitfield, December 2016
"2nd visit - perfect mini break"
    - Mrs Gilbert, February 2017
"Such a lovely cottage, everything you needed for the perfect r&r week away"
    - coastalgirl85, July 2015
"This cottage is situated at the end of a quiet lane right on the beach. We booked in for a week but would have happily stayed longer as it was very comfortable. The cottage is small but perfectly formed and was a great bolt hold to come back to after a day out exploring the local area. The log fire heated the cottage up very quickly and made snuggling down on a night with a glass of wine very relaxing. We traveled as a family of four with 2 additional fury family members in tow - the dogs loved having the beach so close (made the early morning walk nice and easy) as well as all the other great dog friendly attractions the Lakes has to offer. The local pub (Farmers Arms) was a huge hit with everyone (especially the dogs), food and service were second to none - this place should be a must for anyone staying at the cottage. Roys Ices also shouldn't be missed out on, great selection of ice creams to help finish off the end of each day. Will definitely be back!!!!"

"We had the very fortunate opportunity to stay at this cottage in the October half term, travelling from Somerset and arriving in the early hours, the cottage still felt very welcoming on arrival. The views were spectacular and surrounded with gorgeous scenery, the location was brilliant for travelling around the lakes and seeing Cumbria, which on the whole is breathtaking. We have a young family and the cottage was very accommodating, providing a travel cot, highchair etc, even a dishwasher so we didn't have to do the dishes."
    Mr Pickwick,
"This is a gem of a cottage, right on the beach and away from all the hustle and bustle of town/city life. Amazing views and plenty to do round and about. We loved it, dogs loved it, the adults and kids loved it. If you want to chill, this is the place."
    Mrs Elaine Boardman, Southport,
"Driftwood cottage was in a perfect spot, right next to the beach. It was so relaxing and the children spent most days on the beach. As a family with a dog we could not have had a better holiday. We have already booked for next year; thanks."
Mrs Sarah Sheldon, York, North Yorkshire
"In a great location, right on the beach - we went every day! It was very clean, and the owner was extremely helpful & considerate. Great, we really enjoyed our stay."
    Mr Nigel Slater, Buxton,
"The greatest thing about Driftwood is the location. Fantastic for a quiet holiday with the dogs and good local amenities. The cottage itself had everything we needed, comfortable and warm with the wood burner lit. We have already booked again."

Mr Matthew Caygill, Leeds, West Yorkshire
"The location is absolutely fantastic - even in a wet and windy January. Driftwood is a lovely, cosy cottage, with splendid views over the Bay and great facilities."
    Mrs Hilary Nixon, Deal, Kent
"The Scandinavian vibe of the cabin was lovely and the laminate floor was practical for the dogs. The closeness to the beach was amazing, it made it very relaxing. The view through the large picture window out on the estuary was amazing. Having Wifi and a dishwasher was a bonus."
    - Mrs Cotterell-Lamb, October 2018
"Clean and tidy. All facilities provided that one needs. Lovely complimentary gifts for my husband and I with biscuits for the dogs. Owner takes great care with the property and the facilities. Would highly recommend a visit. This is our second time and we will return"

"The cottage was lovely and just what we needed at this time of the year, a short break in a lovely location. I would love to return. When arranging to get the key with the owner, she was helpful and polite."
Mrs Kim Chandler, Holmfirth, West Yorkshire
"Stunning location on the beach and perfect for our walking weekend. An extremely comfortable cottage with good quality beds, bedding and kitchen equipment, providing everything needed for a self catering holiday for the three of us. The wood burner and heaters ensured that we were warm and cosy despite the howling winds and rain. The views from the living room were spectacular and in better weather we would have made use of the patio and plentiful garden furniture. A return in calmer weather a real possibility!"
    Mrs Angela Croft, Derby, Derbyshire
"Location perfect for visiting family and for beach access. One of the best equipped kitchens we have come across in holiday rentals! Fantastic views and a great base for exploring the Lakes."

Would definitely go back."
