Tasteful Chesterfield Cottage sleeping up to 2 guests

S42611 is a gorgeous retreat for couples who want their own space away from the crowds, in the heart of the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. This detached, tranquil cottage sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and lies adjacent to the owners’ home. It is completely self-contained with its own private driveway, allowing you to relax in peaceful surroundings in considerable comfort. The welcoming owners have done everything possible to combine many luxuries of a top hotel, with the charm and freedom of your own country cottage, resulting in a truly fantastic property. Its open plan layout gives the cottage a wonderful light and airy feel, and the contemporary interior with walnut flooring and shaker kitchen adds to the sense of luxury. Light floods in from two floor-to-ceiling windows, and from your bed you can sit back and enjoy superb views over the surrounding woodland.
Conveniently located on the edge of the Peak District National Park, the cottage boasts excellent walks direct from the door through the surrounding woodland. The magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall, and the market town of Bakewell can all be reached in around 20 minutes, as can Hathersage, a village rich in historical, industrial and literary associations. The beautiful honeypot village of Castleton and the wonderfully historic plague village of Eyam are around a 30-minute drive. Spend a day in Matlock, with its cable car ride to the Heights of Abraham, or visit Edale, home to the start of the Pennine Way. The spa town of Buxton can be reached in around 45 minutes. Shop 2½ miles and pub/restaurant ½ mile.

Ten steps to entrance. Open-plan living/dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows, kitchen area and wooden floor. First floor: Double bedroom with TV and en-suite shower room with toilet.

"A lovely peaceful location, superb garden with a brook and a resident kingfisher, if you're lucky enough to see him. Lots of very interesting places can be found nearby. The hosts are very welcoming, and there was homemade bread and biscuits waiting for us on our arrival."
    Confirmed guest – 31 Aug 2018
"Stunning cottage, lovely owners, would go back again!"
    Michelle – 17 Aug 2018

    Graham – 13 Jul 2018
"Great holiday. Cottage was lovley but found bed was too small for us . Had a great meal at Peacock at Barlow"
    Brian – 29 Jun 2018
"The whole aspect of things was superb, the only slight detraction was the bed was a tad short for me but I am 6’ 4”!"
    Lynn – 18 May 2018
"Stayed at many cottages and this is the best so far. Beautiful location and lovely hosts"
    Joan – 12 May 2018
"Certainly the place to stay if you want to relax and unwind. Mike and Janice are the perfect hosts. Their garden is beautiful and we couldn't wait to get back each day to sit on the bench by the brook with a glass of wine while watching the Kingfisher and the Woodpeckers. The cottage is spotless and well equipped. We would definitely recommend S42611.... Thanks Mike and Janice!"
    Alison – 22 Apr 2018

    Laura – 30 Mar 2018

"Fantastic venue! Beautiful cottage, very pleasant owners! Would definitely recommend for an excellent break away from it all!!"
    Richard – 18 Oct 2017
"Lovely cottage and owners we will definitely return"
    David – 6 Oct 2017
"Very welcoming hosts who provided some nice extras for their guests. Directions to cottage need updating/correcting, however."
    Maureen and David – 15 Sep 2017
"Mike and Janice were very welcoming and responsive hosts. Mike's home-made bread, shortbread biscuits and delicious marmalade were most appreciated, as was the opportunity to pick their apples and runner beans. They made it clear that we could call on them at any time if necessary - their house is opposite the cottage. We did, in fact, have to ask Mike on more than one occasion to connect the Smart television when the remote control system was proving difficult. He was extremely helpful. The cottage does not receive a mobile signal, but has good Wi-fi. The cottage is comfortable,warm,well-equipped and situated in a delightful part of Derbyshire. We enjoyed several visits to National Trust, HHA properties, Derby art gallery and museum, Masson working Mills, Buxton Opera House, the incredible Chatsworth 2017 Fashion exhibition in its stunning venue. All easily accessible with glorious views of the Peaks and Dales en route. There was rain and high winds in our week, but wonderfully sunny days as well. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday, leaving us wanting more."
    Sarah & Simon – 3 Sep 2017
"Beautiful cottage, lovely personal touches from the owners (homemade biscuits and marmalade). Icing on the cake was the amazing garden which you have full use of and has two lovely spaces to sit and relax by the brook. The village apparently has a couple of good pubs that are within walking distance, but we only made it to the Tickled Trout where we had an excellent meal out."
    Liz – 1 Sep 2017
"An amazing place for a peaceful holiday in the countryside! Beautiful land and stunning cottage, would definitely stay there again!"
    Stephen – 25 Aug 2017
"Excellent location for touring the peaks or watching the world go by whilst sitting by the brook."
    Nicole – 18 Aug 2017
"Very friendly hosts!A lovely Cottage in a beautiful area."
    Sue – 4 Aug 2017
"A great place to stay. I have not given 10 out of 10 before, but this cottage deserves it. It is the best cottage we have stayed in and nice owners too. It is newly built and ideal for two people. Lots of interesting historic houses and gardens in the area and good for walking."
    Richard – 30 Jun 2017
"It was the best cottage we have stayed in. Janice and Mike were so welcoming and provided a wonderful welcoming package. They were very friendly and encouraged us to enjoy their lovely garden. The cottage was immaculate and we could certainly recommend it to friends and family."
    Gerrry – 16 Jun 2017
"Such a beautiful and peaceful location for a holiday cottage. The owners were so welcoming and helpful. Perfect base for exploring the Peak District. Even the Peacock pub had a great menu, having a good range of vegetarian options. Of all the cottages I've rented over the years, this is by far the best one."
    Paul – 2 Jun 2017
"Excellent cottage. The best we have stayed in!"

"But expensive the price for just 2 nights. Everything was great just the smart tv wasn't connecting so I was there watching tv that was no different than at home. Only annoying part really"
    Declan – 20 Feb 2017

"The prettiest cottage we have ever stayed in! Going to change my décor at home! Absolutely perfect for a couple. Set in beautiful grounds. Very friendly owners. Lovely touch of homemade bread and divine shortbread. Even though it's not 'in' the middle of the Peaks, nice walks from the cottage. We had awful weather so need to go back when it isn't so wet ... we will return."
    Karen
"Lovely cottage in a quiet, peaceful area but in a good location for sightseeing. The owners were very welcoming. The cottage has been well thought out and there was nothing to fault. The homemade biscuits (delicious by the way!), jam and bread was a nice welcome touch after a long drive which helped to make you feel instantly at home and relaxed. We wanted to keep this gem of a place secret so were reluctant to give it a ten out of ten :) but it is well deserved - we can't wait to go back."
