About this property

Brailsford 1.1 miles. This charming farmhouse is situated outside the delightful village of Brailsford. The traditional furnishings and warm interior is perfect for couples to enjoy, yet the spacious layout is equally ideal for families. Upon entering, an open plan living area is styled with comfortable sofas, and an open fire so you can sit back and absorb the characterful interior. A dining table rests near the window, neighboured by a set of armchairs; great for reading a book in the late afternoon. A homely kitchen lies just off from this, with a small breakfast table that promises a lovely start to the day. Take the stairs and you will arrive at a bathroom, containing a pure white finish, convenient for all the family to make use of. A couple more steps lead up to a twin bedroom pieced together with matching bedside tables and views of the countryside. The double bedroom complements the twin, and is home to a dressing table so you can get ready for the day ahead in style, after embracing a good nights sleep. For an adventure, why not explore the village of Brailsford with its historic features and architecture, church, village hall and country homes. If you are looking for an outdoor adventure nonetheless, Carsington Water, the Dove, Manifold Valleys and Chatsworth are all close by, along with the attractive market town of Ashbourne. There is so much to explore in this relaxing location.

The village of Brailsford lies at the southern end of the Peak District, close to both Ashbourne and Derby. The village offers a Post Office, a pub and a small village shop. It is also home to the Jacobean-style Brailsford Hall, and Culland Hall, along with Brailsford Church, originally built in the 11th century. The market town of Ashbourne is just six miles away and has much to offer from Georgian buildings to cobbled streets.

We bought our own knives with us after reading a review about blunt ones in the property. Lovely hot water and good pressure. Difficult to open window in the second bedroom, airy and light in general. A good base for countryside exploration.

Overall we had a lovely time, the property was spacious and clean and within easy reach of tourist attractions. The owner was also very friendly and accomodating.

For a self catering property holding up to 4 adults, the storage in the kitchen was very limited. I also felt the house could of done with freshening up, as the wall paper was dated, and peeling in several roons. The bedrooms provided enough storage, my concerns were the windows. I managed to open the front room window no bigger than 4 inches, which I had to request Richard thw farmer to do, as I didnt have the strengh. Despite being fairly fit, and able bodied. I was unable to open the bedroom with two single beds at all, this I felt raised concerns had there been a fire. The bath in the bathroom needs looking attention, there were no grip rails, or bath sides to pull oneself out of the bath, especially if suffering a mobility difficulty, or an older person. During the course of the week we had several slips in the bath. I also found myself having to purchase a set of kitchen knives, as the kitchen knives provided were not fit for purpose. Overall for the stay of our duration, I would give the week a 7/10, the elderly couple who run the Farm were approachable when approached, but seemed a bit elusive, the impression I was left with was, they would speak to the US if they were required to. I feel this was more evident, when I was informed the lady of the house was giving the holiday letting business up, as she wanted to retire, this is fair enough as both were past retirement age.
