Situated in the depths of the glorious East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on a working farm, this lovely old farmhouse dates from the late 16th century and offers spacious and beautifully furnished self-catering accommodation.
This is a fantastic place for holidaying with family or friends, as it is so much more than a base from which to explore the (admittedly fabulous) countryside. Relaxed, but luxurious, Sutton Barton also offers plenty of in-house entertainment for all ages. Rainy days and long winter evenings hold no threat when you discover the large and superbly equipped games room. It boasts a full size snooker table, pool table, table tennis table, skittle alley and large 50" television. For the audience there is also a generous lounge area and bar.
For those with rest and relaxation on the agenda there is an adjacent hot tub and BBQ area with 2 six seater hot tubs and a sauna. Little ones are well catered for with inside and outside play areas including a sunken trampoline, climbing frame with swings, slides and a sandpit.
The house has plenty of period charm with magnificent fireplaces of brick and stone, dark beams, wood paneling and an ancient stained glass window. Wood burners compliment the central heating and keep things cosy. The spacious sitting room and grand dining room are both full of character and are excellent places to reconvene with the troops at the end of a busy day. A fully equipped and flagstoned kitchen is a delight to work in and the small breakfast room is a great place for feeding little ones if dinner times don't coincide. Upstairs all the 6 bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms/shower rooms. Antique French beds in each of the double bedrooms bring a touch of continental elegance.
The Barton is on a working farm in the midst of the Blackdown Hills, just 7 miles from the wide crescent of Lyme Bay and The Jurassic Coast. There are plenty of beaches, fishing villages and attractive seaside towns to visit: Seaton (7.3 miles), Beer (7.8 miles), Sidmouth (12.6 miles), Branscombe (7.7 miles), and Lyme Regis (12 miles). Tackle the South West Coast Path, go fossil hunting at Charmouth, take a deep sea fishing trip or try your hand at one of the many watersport opportunities on offer.
Inland, why not have a day at the races at Exeter or Taunton? Foodies will want to dine at River Cottage HQ and there are numerous excellent pubs and restaurants to discover. Further afield the National Parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor are both about an hour away.
