About this property

Tavern Cottage is situated in the heart of Corfe Castle village in Dorset and is believed to inspire Kirrin Castle in Enid Blyton’s popular books. The property sits only a couple of minutes from the famous castle ruins.

The property is a lovely cottage for families or couples with a garden and views to the Corfe castle, where you can take some pictures. The property is well-equipped and has a home-away-from-home feeling to it.

The property is located on the main Wareham to Swanage road, but it is really quiet because of the secondary double-glazing windows.

The village of Corfe Castle offers special gift and craft shops, several up-market eating houses and coffee shops with cream teas. Much of the area is in the ownership of the Natural Trust and is designated as an area of outstanding beauty.

Tavern Way is in a perfect position to explore many of Dorset's popular locations of Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, and Old Harry's Rock at Studland.

The area of Purbeck has a special beauty with sweeping headlands, steeply ridged hills, heathland areas and coastline. Studland which is close by has a famous sandy beach which is approached via unspoilt scenery. You may take your car by the Studland chain ferry to Poole which is a real thrill for children.

Venture and explore villages of Worth Matravers, Kingston, Langdon Matravers. A bit further you will find the South West Coast path with amazing Chapman’s Pool, Kimmeridge bay, Dancing ledge, St Aldhelm’s chapel.

Tavern Way is a beautiful getaway perfect for those wishing to holiday surrounded by beautiful countryside.

Cove Castle is the locals favourite beach area, sitting along side the Rodwell trail area, Cove Castle Beach is usually uncrowded, and offers safe bathing from it’s gently sloping shoreline. CoveCastle and Sandsfoot beach sit side by side, both with soft golden sand and the vibe of the best kept secret. Sandsfoot castle is just two minutes’ walk from the beach where you will find castle ruins, pretty award-winning gardens and a small café, offering snacks, drinks and ice-creams. Accessed off Old Castle Road in Weymouth, this area is a real treat for those who want to be away from the buzz and bright lights of the traditional Weymouth Seafront, and yet close enough to venture there when they choose. When you are on the beach you could be forgiven for thinking you are miles from town, and yet you are only a 15-20 minute walk from the old Harbour and access to Weymouth town centre. If you want to know where the locals would recommend you spend your beach days, then Cove Castle and Sandsfoot beaches are it.

Clean and tidy but minimal equipment with no frills. Stairs are dangerous with narrow treads and difficult to negotiate not suitable for the elderly.

The closest pub with beer garden and good food is almost opposite. The cottage has a good back garden that leads onto a field with footpaths in either direction. There is furniture to sit and enjoy during good weather. The cottage itself is small and with steep wooden stairs that would not be suitable for families with small children or for elderly guests. It is an old property that could benefit from an upgrade. During our stay the washing machine did not work and the toilet flush had no suction. We couldn’t close the curtains in the front room because the bracket holding the pole was only just holding on. One of the single beds collapsed when sat on. Whilst these issues did not affect the overall quality of our holiday, it was annoying having to repeatedly call the management team to arrange for someone to come out and repair where possible. The washing machine was never fixed and the toilet remained a problem. This could be a great property however, maintenance and modernisation is required.

Only one comment - there was no hairdryer or mirror in the main bedroom for doing hair and makeup . Otherwise would recommend this cottage - really loved the large garden and being able to access the common to walk to the village without walking along the road .
