Get away from the stresses of modern life at Gore Cottage, West Milton which is in a conservation area in an "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty"; Gore Cottage is listed as being a "Building of Special Architectural Interest Grade II".
The cottage is stone built with a thatched roof and porch and stands in its own secluded garden on the edge of the village. It sleeps up to five guests, plus a cot, in two upstairs double rooms - one has a double bed and the other has two singles. There is a single room downstairs which is the room with the land line telephone. The compact bathroom has a full sized bath and basin. There is a separate WC and washbasin downstairs. The kitchen is large enough to eat in and the separate living room features a multi-fuel stove. There is another WC in the thatched garden shed.
With no television because of poor reception and no signal for mobile phones either, Gore is an ideal place for a 'retro' holiday! There is a selection of books, maps and guide books in the cottage, as well as jigsaws, cards and games. The surrounding countryside is ideal for bird watching, walking and for the energetic, cycling.
There is an ordinary land line phone at Gore.
At the end of the lane there is a garage and parking for a second car; the cottage is reached via a walk of about 100 yards along the footpath, across the footbridge over a stream, the Mangerton river. Children sometimes find small fossils there, but please supervise themat all times!
All the appliances are electric: cooker, microwave, fridge and automatic washing machine.
The electricity - light, heating and hot water - is included in the rent.
There is a telephone for out going and incoming calls.
Pillows, blankets and eiderdowns are provided.
Sheets, pillow cases and towels are provided.
There is a selection of books, maps and guide books in the cottage, as well as jigsaws, cards and games.
The Jurassic Coast has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and West Milton is just 5 miles from the coast at West Bay which is Bridport's harbour
and the setting for 'Broadchurch'. Other nearby beaches are at Burton Bradstock and Seatown.
Riding, fishing and golf are available in the area. Places to visit include the gardens of Mapperton, Bathsheba Everdene's farm house in the new film of 'Far from the Madding Crowd'. Other gardens to be visited are Minterne, near Cerne Abbas with its 'Giant' cut into the chalk hillside, the Swannery at Abbotsbury, and houses such as Forde Abbey and Athelhampton.
