"Beautiful cottage in idyllic setting. Very comfortable, magical gardens and short walk across field to beach. Will definitely return."
    john – 17 Aug 2018
    "another good holiday at S19697"
    Mcc – 10 Aug 2018
"Cottage and garden better than the brochure pictures\website pictures convey. Children loved treehouse, and 'secret' lane 'to coast at bottom of garden. Badger made late night visits to garden and provided exciting wildlife-spotting climax to the stay. For urban folk, used to light pollution, the starry heavens at night were a blessing to behold- one has only to look up from the garden to receive an awesome and instructive experience, much appreciated by old and young alike."
    David – 22 Jun 2018
"Nothing wrong with the house, but the garden paths were unswept and the cobble approach very uneven and needing attention. Garden seems to be escaping and in need of much TLC. Cupboard at the back of the kitchen is hopelessly cluttered and the contents should be severely culled, (maybe erect a storeroom on the concrete base to house all the beach and garden toys. A brilliant cottage. A perfect holiday location. Love it x."

"Stayed at S19697 with my father who was brought up in the area, and spent his childhood playing on the beach, cliffs and the downs at Eype in the 1930's and 1940's. It brought back many memories for him. Fantastic location - very rural and quiet. Garden is special- mature and well managed with lots of fruit trees and nooks and crannies. Lovely walk through the garden and across a field to the beach. The house is very quirky, well equipped and very comfortable, with large spacious rooms. It was warm and inviting and had everything we needed. The only drawback was the drive and path at front of house, which is very uneven and slippery in the wet weather, and a gulley between the drive and house, which is dangerous in the dark, so a little awkward for the elderly. Parking is also difficult if more than 1 car. If the large lawn at the end of the drive was hard-scaped it would be perfect. (Would recommend that cement in walls needs to be removed and replaced with lime mortar to prevent damp also). Thank you for sharing your beautiful, unique home with us. Unfortunately our visit was cut short due to illness but we would love to return. We would highly recommend S19697 for a quiet, relaxing break."

    "Perfect"
    Susan – 22 Sep 2017
"The only problem is with parking, there is not enough room for two cars and the only place to turn round is on the lawn as reversing out is not an option"
    Peter – 1 Sep 2017
"Second visit, extended family. (GDad writing this). Holiday defined by the wonderful garden, with its nooks, crannies and hiding places, tree house, trampoline, and seemingly secret paths that take you miles. Halcyon days for children. The best place for hide and seek ever. The house is lovely, and the summer house a delightful detached and functional place for Gparents to escape the noise of children's bedtime in the main house. Ducks Bottom is a place that works for three generations of a family to live. The main house bedrooms are good, the kitchen perfectly functional and more than adequately stocked with those things a kitchen needs. I can't remember once thinking, 'they haven't got x'. The white goods all work perfectly, there are adequate instruction leaflets in a kitchen drawer if needed, the wifi is functional and the best you'll find in a non cabled location. On the debit side, the mattresses might be within sleeping distance of needing to be renewed; and the lighting in the main rooms is a little sporadic and improvised. But, come on, this is being churlish; a great house, a brilliant garden, badgers in the night, within easy driving distance of wonderful locations and a joy to stay in."
    David – 4 Aug 2017
"Our second visit to this cottage - a thoroughly enjoyable stay despite indifferent weather.Brilliant for kids! However, the lighting in the sitting rooms is just not good enough. If you want to read a book on a dull afternoon you must commandeer the only flexible lamp in the room. Also the bed in the annex was felt damp the first night ."

"We enjoyed our staying. The houses are fine and the garden is very beatiful and well kept. The birds ware singing the whole day. It is wonderfull walking from your own garden, throughout the fields and then you see the sea. Walking parts of the coast path was very enjoyable. In the house we never missed a thing."

"Beautiful period thatched cottage just off Eype beach. Has two double bed rooms plus "summer house" which is fully heated & has double bed & bathroom. Cottage has low ceilings which is challenge for anyone over 6'2" (son is 6'5" so he went in summer house).Well maintained with everything you need. Lovely garden with treehouse for kids. Garden has short track to coastal walk and beach. Parking for 2 cars but narrow. We have an XC90 but managed. Pub a short walk away but busy. Good wifi (BT). Ok phone reception."

"What an absolute gem of a cottage Ducks Bottom is. From the moment we arrived we knew we would enjoy our stay and it far exceeded our expectations. The cottage itself is roomy, comfortable and very well equipped. I stayed in the summer house which is practically self contained and also very comfortable. The garden is a joy to behold and could even be classed as a small park. It was lovely to be able to walk round it everyday. For us, the most wonderful thing was watching badgers come to feed every evening, just feet away, so close we could even hear them munching. There are some beautiful walks which you can access from the garden and a short drive away should you wish to venture further. The Abbotsbury Swannery is definitely worth a visit. I cannot recommend highly enough The New Inn which is less than a five minute walk from the cottage. The landlord and his lovely wife are most welcoming, as is Archie their dog and the food is superb - fish and chips to die for. Down House Farm is also near by (be prepared for a good walk or a very bumpy drive up the track to it ) and I enjoyed the best BLT I've ever tasted. I would however, point out that access to the cottage is via narrow roads and the drive also takes some manoeuvring to get in and out of (Chelsea tractor owners be warned!). We certainly hope to visit again, a true jewel set within the beautiful Dorset countryside. Just sad dogs aren't allowed."

"Perfect cottage, perfect location. Didn't venture more than a few miles from Eype during the whole week. Loved the clifftop walks to West Bay, Seatown and to the nearby farm cafe. My kids adored the garden with the trampoline and the treehouse, and food at the local pub is excellent. Highly recommended."

"Nice cottage and easy walk to good beach. BUT, cottage cold at start of week (early July too) and very low beams make hard-hats almost compulsory. Cottage is down very narrow lane with tight turns - this should be flagged in description as arriving in a large car is problematic as is turning around once at the cottage. In conclusion, cottage would be ideal if demolished and rebuilt 10m to left, with full-height ceilings, a shower inside, and decent-sized windows letting in more light. The thatched roof could be retained!"

"We had a fantastic time! The house was perfect for us with the summer house giving our family the space we all needed (4 adults and one toddler). The Garden has to be seen to be believed! So many amazing places to walk to right out of the door (Seaside, pubs and amazing Cafe) plus it's ideally situated for exploring Dorset/Devon. Just a great place, thank you :)"
    Margaret
"This is a lovely cottage in an idyllic situation...the gardens are amazing. The children loved the secret path to the beach and the tree house was a huge hit. An ideal place for a family holiday even when the weather is bad there is lots to do in the cottage...the jigsaws and table were hugely popular as somewhere for adults to "escape " to . Well stocked cupboards in the kitchen too.Very little to criticise , but more lights needed in the lounges and better bedside reading lamps. Summer house very comfortable though rather damp when cold. The clothes airer needs replacing as it left rust marks on some of our clothes and we couldn't find a hairdryer anywhere!New Inn pub just up the lane was very welcoming to us all and serves excellent food."
    William
"It is a lovely cottage and the gardens are great. The way it is laid out is very good. The water pressure is a lot lower than we are used to. but you soon get used to it."
    Paul
"Many of the previous issues raised by tenants have not been addressed. The cottage was given a surface clean for hand-over but parts of it (in particular the utility room) were filthy. The windows and sills need cleaning; the sofa covers need cleaning; the nettles need cutting away from the trampoline and tree house; light bulbs need to be checked; the fridge was dirty and the freezer completely frosted up; the vacuum cleaner was so stuffed with debris that it didn't work properly. There is a damp smell in the annex (mentioned by others). It needs a lot more care and attention and a proper hand-over when the expectations of both the owner and renter are addressed."

"This cottage felt like home. There were lots of board games and books for the kids, a fantastic open log fire to curl up in front of and a superb garden with treehouse, trampoline and access to the beach at Eype. Feb 2010."

"We have visited this property 3 times recently and consider it of the highest quality and very comfortable, unfortunately we had to cut short our visit this time as my wife was taken ill, however, we received prompt and excellent help from the Health Centre in Yetminster, which was most reassuring. Oct 2009."

"The cottage was absolutely delightful. As others have said, the pictures don’t do it justice and the cottage has been re-thatched since the site/brochure photos were taken. The garden was huge and much bigger than expected. There was ample parking. The location provided quick access to the beach and it was easy to get to the supermarket in Bridport. Sept 2009."

"Useful having the granny flat as there were 3 generations holidaying together. The layout provided space to escape. Spaciousness of the cottage itself and the large beautiful garden. July 2009."

"Ducks Bottom cottage was extraordinarily beautiful! The trampoline was fantastic for kids and it was lovely to be able to walk through the lovely garden to the beach. May 2009."

"Lovely cottage, beautiful large wild garden, a tree house to die for (and I am 70), half a mile from the sea in a beautiful county. Sept 2008."

"We had a fantastic time. Weather, accommodation and location wonderful. Aug 2008."
    Previous guest
"The cottage was lovely and the garden was beautiful. Whilst we saw how nice it looked in the brochure and on the website, I don’t think the grounds were done justice, they were simply fantastic. Aug 2008."
    Previous guest
"The photographs on your website do not do this property justice. We were more than pleased with the the standard and quality of the accommodation, which was better than we had anticipated. Aug 2007."
    Previous guest
"This is a wonderful house, very well appointed and full of thoughtful extras, for example picnic rugs. Everything, furnishings, beds, kitchen ware etc was of top quality. The garden is perfect, the trampoline and tree house brought hours of pleasure to the children. It’s a great house for mixed generations. We, the grandparents, loved our summerhouse hideaway with its comfortable bed and ensuite. Aug 2007."
