"Beautiful place to stay. So peaceful. Lovely owner"
John – 12 Oct 2018
"Cottage was delightful with a welcome hamper in lovely setting. But in 2 of the bedrooms there were quite a number of spiders and cobwebs which rather spoilt things.Especially as one of our party was terrified of spiders and finished up sleeping on settee in lounge."
Andrea – 14 Sep 2018
"Great cottage every amenity, Valda , Ben and Kimmy very welcoming ,even when we got held up in traffic and arrived late ! Very good welcome package.would give this cottage 15*** if I could .Thankyou.xx"
Mr Raymond – 13 Jul 2018
"We have stayed in Dorset many times over the years and we wished we had found this cottage a lot earlier as this is the best cottage we have stayed in. It is in a perfect position and very spacious, with lovely views from the lounge. We loved seeing the chickens wandering around and the donkeys in the next field. The owner Valda is lovely and the perfect host and her fresh free range eggs are delicious , we would definitely come back."
Brian – 1 Jun 2018
"From the first view of the cottage, you knew it was going to be perfect for a very relaxing holiday. Added to this was the beautiful walk rounds the fields shown by a cut grass path, and the animals around the farm. will be going back ."
Jocelyn – 18 May 2018
"One of the best cottages we've ever stayed in."
Janet – 11 May 2018
"We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Mill End. It has everything you could want in the cottage and the atmosphere is so tranquil. We were greeted warmly by our host and there was a nice welcome pack with some wonderful eggs from the free range hens. There are walks from the farm. One does need a car to get out and about but there is a good local shop a bit less than a mile away and plenty of other shopping and eating opportunities in Sturminster Newton and Yeovil etc. We had one small downside because one of our party is a very light sleeper and three cockerels were a bit of a challenge for him in the very early mornings! As a friend said, going to a farm one has to expect these things. We would certainly love to visit again. Thank you Valda for all your kindness."

"I've stayed in many private properties over the years (barns, cottages, farms) and by far this has been the nicest, cleanest and best I've stayed in (and I've been in some pretty great properties before). The setting is just perfect, the barn itself is far bigger than the photo's make it appear to be (there were just 2 of us, but had there been 6 - the amount of people who can stay here - it would still have been as comfortable).Normally when I stay somewhere I leave it cleaner than I find it - not possible here as it was spotless. The fenced in garden is huge so if you don't want to venture far you can just sit and bird watch (robins, housemartins, blue/great and coal tits, pigeons (they get everywhere) doves, pied wagtails, wagtails and a variety of finches were whizzing around every day, alongside buzzards and the owners chickens, cockerels and guinea fowl. There is a 6 seater picnic table on the patio, and a rotary washing line (the pegs can be found hanging in the utility room). If you take a dog you could leave the doors open and it could wear itself out just in the garden alone - or, you could take a walk down to "Henry's field" at the back of the property where you can meander along the river and your dog can run free (the bottom right corner by the widest part of the river is the perfect spot for a sunset photograph). The en suite's for each room are bigger than my bathroom at home and all include a bath with shower over (the water pressure is fabulous). The beds are comfortable do not be fooled by how thin the quilts appear to be - they pack some heat. There is enough storage in each room for clothing (chests of drawers and double wardrobe) alongside a TV in each (some kind of freeview only, but if you're staying here TV is quite possibly the furthest thing from your mind as there is so much to watch outside the windows). There is internet at the property but it's so slow there is no point trying to connect to it - if you really cannot be disconnected I had 4G on the patio and outside the front door. The kitchen is fully fitted with all you will need (and more) there is plenty of cupboard space. The utility room has a fridge/freezer along with a washing machine, iron/ironing board, hoover and enough coat hooks for everyone to hang up a coat to dry if it's been raining. This is a good spot for boots too. There is more than enough seating in the lounge and a 6 seat dining table offering plenty of room for everyone to sit comfortably. The property has a small selection of videos/dvd's and some board games; there are also several books in the lounge and the end double bedroom too.The welcome pack is - well, welcome - and Valda is lovely. A very welcoming host who keeps to herself so as not to intrude, but not so aloof that you cannot chat to her or ask her anything. We had some lovely conversations with her, and having read one of the guest books learned she likes Apple Crumble (might be nice to take one along if you're visiting!)There are dogs and chickens roaming the grounds so keep this in mind if you're not a lover of either. If you're happy to share your time with the wildlife, like an "escape from it all" which is also very central for visiting Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, all of which (and their attractions) are within easy reach, then you will not be disappointed if you book at Mill End Farm Cottage. I cannot wait to go back."
Anna – 20 Oct 2017
"We had a lovely week staying in Valda's cottage and we couldn't have had a better host. A couple of things went wrong but she was quick to help sort things out. Lovely, rural location but several pubs fairly near (The Green Man is only a short drive) and the friendly Italian restaurant is also just down the road. They make the most amazing authentic pizzas! Loved how the cottage felt like a real home and had good quality utensils. Would heartily recommend."
Sylvia – 22 Sep 2017
"The cottage is very comfortable, and well equipped with games and DVDs for a rainy day. There were lovely flowers and a basket of eggs fresh from the many hens, to welcome us. This was our second holiday here, and we are sure to come again."
Harry – 1 Sep 2017
"The reception on arrival was pleasant and without any fuss. The welcome pack of food and their own free range eggs was very good. The farm location with closed in gardens around the holiday Let and walks around "Henry's Field" by the river were more than enjoyable especially when taking our pet Lab.The property itself is very spacious with "en suite" in every bedroom and plenty of room for all. Will book again in the near future given the chance."

"Absolutely fantastic weeks stay in this lovely homely well equipped cottage. Everything you need for your stay. Spotless. Comfortable and warm.Lovely walks around the farm land and use of the snooker table. Large enclosed garden which was great for our little dog. Next door to the owner who is lovely, but very private. Lovely welcome pack and fresh eggs left for us which was so kind.Would stay again. Shame only there for a week.Thank you. xx"
Debbie – 28 Jul 2017
"Valda was lovely, friendly, helpful, and very generous with her specialised eggs. The place is situated in a remote part of North Dorset and therefore a car is essential. The converted barn is very spacious with a very secure garden which was ideal for our young husky and children alike."
Jane – 9 Jun 2017
"2nd time here and lived up to expectations . Thoroughly recommended."
David – 28 Apr 2017
"The Cottage is very roomy, all bedrooms with en-suite and TVs well equipped kitchen and roomy dining/lounge area . lovely enclosed, dog safe garden and nice walk through Henry's field. Many attractions close by and easy access to the coast."
Brenda
"We have stayed at many places and this rates in the excellent cottage. From start to finish owner was helpful and left us a very good starter pack. it would be a great place for children. There are donkeys in the next field and chickens running around. Would recommend this as a great laid back location."
John
"We had a relaxing stay in this lovely holiday cottage and were made very welcome by the friendly owner. Being able to walk through the yard and see the animals on our way to Henry's field with it's blackberries, paths and river bank was a great start to every day - as were the free range eggs from the owner's chickens. It was a great holiday for three generations and their dog. We hope to return."
Ann
"Lovely dog friendly cottage. Such a relief to have a secure garden for our two to race around! And fabulous longer walks down by the river round the meadow. Great welcome from the host too. Definitely recommend this place :)"
John
"A cottage you cannot fault. Quiet and peaceful apart from the donkeys. Local amenities within easy reach and well stocked. It was our second visit and we thoroughly recommend it."
Jane
"We stayed for a week during a family wedding nearby. It was the perfect base for visiting family and friends and for sightseeing. A beautiful, peaceful location and lovely walks across the fields from the cottage; plenty of space in the comfortable, well-equipped cottage and garden; perfect for country enthusiasts and animal lovers; a very good pub in the village and close to the attractive towns of Sherborne and Sturminster Newton."
Matthew
"A lovely comfortable cottage in beautiful countryside. One of the best cottages we have stayed in.Lovely to have fresh eggs from the friendly resident chickens. A nice walk to the river, through Henry's field.Had a very relaxing holiday and will definitely be back."

"This was an ideal home from home for our party of 4 adults - great location, most hospitable owners, ideal for touring around this area of Dorset. Fresh farm eggs were a bonus and the open country around us made for a most relaxed and unwinding experience"

"cottage was beautiful, in a good location, but they do need to employ some one to give it a good clean."
Lloyd
"This was our second stay and we would book again if we holiday in Dorset."
Philip
"Lovely cottage in a peaceful setting . Very well equipped and warm. (Metered electricity was only a small amount extra.) Hosts are next door and appropriately attentive but not intrusive. Generous and helpful attitude, which just helped us relax. Generous welcome pack and eggs. The coast is a significant drive, but we enjoyed varying the routes we took to see more of the villages and area.Enjoyed some games of Snooker. Very grateful for a successful holiday."
Chris
"The cottage was as expected, and the welcome pack was very generous. We had a good week in spite of very mixed weather."
carol
"we had a lovley relaxing break at mill end cottage we had our 85 year old mother with us and everything was just fine for her she is in a wheelchair. "
Steve
"Very generous all round; space, equipment (dish washer, tv in every room), massive grounds with gorgeous chickens and 2 very entertaining donkeys. A perfect country retreat."
Tim
"We've just had a wonderful holiday. The cottage was everything we had hoped for and more. Everything we needed was there, and although there was no mobile phone signal, the proprietors have provided a land line telephone with an honesty box which guests are free to use. We can't recommend this cottage highly enough."
Jackie
"Nicely appointed, spacious property in a lovely setting. Ideal location for a laid-back break."
riley
"the owners went the extra mile to make our stay a most enjoyable experience.a beautiful location with lots to do and see in the local area.a visit to the tank museum is a must for all ages"
Trevor
"Whilst we felt that the cottage was snug and cosy, we did feel that there were too many spider's webs around and felt that the kitchen could have been cleaner, particularly the cupboards - they did not seem to have been cleaned out since the last guests.Having said that we did enjoy our time in Dorset and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings of the cottage."

"This property is so well equipped we found it very comfortable. The only comment I would make is that there are no waste paper baskets in the lounge or bedrooms, only small bins in the bathrooms. These would be useful. July 2011."

"Three bedrooms all on-suite, fabulous. Hugh and Velda are wonderful hosts and can’t do enough for you. Croquet (or our version of it) in the spacious garden is a must. Riverside walk in the grounds and a fifteen minute walk to the "Green Man" makes the car redundant for a week. What a place to chill out. Excellent. This was our third visit to this property and will not hesitate to visit again. July 2010."
