About this property

A traditional fisherman's cottage with a contemporary interiorA traditional fisherman's cottage with a contemporary interior

Sea Pinks Cottage was built around 1860 and is a fine example of a traditional fisherman’s cottage built with Portland stone.

The property has been refurbished to a high standard with the bedrooms offering views either towards Portland, Lyme Bay or Chesil Beach. Externally, the property boasts a secure walled garden, the ideal spot to relax and make use of the barbecue.

Sea Pinks Cottage nestles at the bottom of a steep hill in the historic area called Mallams on the Isle of Portland. Within walking distance you will find a selection of shops, pubs, cafes and takeaways. Be sure to take a walk around Portland Marina, this location offers some of the finest small boat sailing waters in Northern Europe. This location was the official venue for the Olympic sailing events in 2012. Portland also boasts Chesil Beach, an impressive 18 mile long shingle beach.

For a greater selection of amenities and attractions, the traditional seaside town of Weymouth can be reached within a 15 minute drive. Weymouth boasts a large expanse of golden sand, complete with Punch and Judy show and donkey rides in the summer. In Weymouth you will also find many shops, restaurants and cafes to enjoy as well as numerous attractions such as the Sea Life Park and Marine Sanctuary.
The property is set over three floors with the orginial steep stair.

...to climb very narrow and steep stairs. The parking is very difficult,I nearly burnt the clutch out on my car parking it on such a steep hill. The cottage itself is very clean and nicely furnished but not suitable for the elderly but all in all a very nice place to stay. ...windy November! Despite the weather we had a lovely time - the idea was to relax and we could quite comfortably in this quirky cottage. It has a great location close to the sea front (you can hear the sea in the house!) and close to local shops and pub. We ate at the local Balti Indian one night, which we really enjoyed (very convenient just 2 min walk away), and also spent a great night at the local pub, the Cove House Inn. It's a proper old pub, basic pub grub, right by the sea. We went on a Thursday night when they have regular folk bands playing - it was brilliant to be in there listening to great music whilst outside was blowing a gale! The property itself is quite old with many quirky features, and it has been kitted out very nicely. I am 5 months pregnant and probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone much further along in pregnancy as it has a very steep, narrow stairway...my poor husband was terrified I'd slip and fall but I was fine. I was aware of this when I booked however, and liked the novelty of it! The bathroom is huge, and has a great shower. It was easy to warm the place up too, and the gas fire in the lounge was a bonus. The kitchen is small, but adequate. The dining area is great and would suit a larger group. There is also a garden...we didn't venture out there due to the weather but I imagine it would be great in summer and you can see the Olympic Rings up on the hill by the quarry. In all, it was just what we wanted. Submitted by Keri on 09/11/2015

...bedrooms,bathroom & dining room a good size, kitchen a bit tight with more than one adult at a time, seating in living room very tight for 6 adults. Everything you need for a . Holiday provided. Good for family with children as small enclosed garden and a short walk to the beach just a steep walk back to cottage. Lots to do and see, a climb up the lighthouse a must and a lunch at the restaurant recommended. A visit to the museum is well worth it and good to do if weather not so good. Lots of places to walk and some fantastic views. Submitted by Roberta on 27/09/2015
