The ancient market town of Sudbury is nearby as is the Stour Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dating back to Saxon times, there is a long history in the weaving and silk industries. Much of the work by Thomas Gainsbourgh was inspired by the beauty of Sudbury and you can visit his birthplace, art gallery and museum, exhibiting a number of his paintings. The area is particularly famous for the work of Constable and is referred to as ’Constable Country’. The River Stour provides the setting for much of his work. To the east you can visit Colchester with shopping, restaurants and pubs. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
