Laxton Fortune is a delightful combination of country lodges Laxton and Fortune. Together they accommodate six guests in the peaceful surroundings of Constable Country, within the grounds of the Stoke by Nayland Resort. The combined lodges are perfect for romantic escapes, cosy family and friends' reunions and golf and spa breaks.
Spacious and bright, each of the two floors offers a large open-plan living, kitchen and dining area which features floor-to-ceiling windows at one end, with patio doors leading out onto large balconies looking out over the beautiful Suffolk countryside - just perfect for a leisurely breakfast or barbecue, a spot of sunbathing or perhaps an evening cocktail or two as the sun goes down. On the ground floor there is a spacious en-suite double bedroom, a second large bedroom with access to the family bathroom. On the first floor there is a luxurious penthouse en-suite bedroom with high ceilings and chandelier. Each of the three bedrooms offer zip and link beds which can either be twins, or can be zipped together to make a super king-size bed.
Up to ten lodges offering a total of 16 double bedrooms can also be booked together for much larger groups of up to 32 guests. These are all within a five minute drive of the nearby outstanding facilities at the family-owned Stoke by Nayland Resort.

It was quiet, luxurious and had space for all the family to spill out, read, swim, relax and discover some real gems in the area. The minibus taking you up to the hotel saved always being in the car.

The accommodation and cleanliness was very good. We received a very poor level of customer service from the hotel reception on arrival from one of the reception team who did not seem to know what we were asking when we explained we were checking into one of the hotel lodges. Her response to our repeated request about our reservation was a flippant "if you say so". The other staff members were very pleasant and offered good customer service throughout our stay. The restaurant staff were very nice and clearly understood one of our guests specific allergy needs and the porter could not have been more helpful with lifts in the courtesy bus. We felt that charging £20 for the loan of a BBQ was too steep and a £20 per hour charge for a potential late check out request was also very steep. The welcome pack was poor. We do always leave a property as found and as clean and tidy as we can but the written request in the lodge was quite terse about the requirement for cleaning and not conducive to a friendly and welcoming approach that we have always had from every other Rural Retreat property in the past. Laxton Fortune was a nice lodge but the overall feel was that our stay was not of the level that Rural Retreats prides itself on and it did not feel like a Rural Retreats type of property - let down by the rules/pricing structure of the hotel not the people. We would not stay there again but will definitely stay at other Rural Retreat properties as the service and accommodation has always been extremely high - not so with this one unfortunately.
