Excellent Maldon Cottage sleeping up to 2 guests

Set in a quiet residential area, this terraced cottage is a great base from which to explore the beautiful, unspoilt Essex countryside.
S85018 was built in the 1850s and has been lovingly renovated by the owners to retain its period charm while offering all the modern conveniences needed for a relaxing break. Formerly a two bedroom property, the owner has converted one of the bedrooms into a large bathroom, which means that the cottage offers a lot of space for just two guests.
Mill Lane was the former site of a mill and it is thought that the pretty row of cottages was originally built for mill workers, although the history of the property reveals that it has housed many local families, including brewery workers.
This terraced property is set in a quiet residential area but lies close to the picturesque town centre, where you will find properties dating back to the 15th century, lots of boutique shops, cafés, bars and restaurants. Here, you will also find the famous Bridge End Gardens, a lovingly restored Grade II gem which consists of seven interlinked gardens originally laid out in the 19th century, and the Saffron Walden Museum, which opened in 1835 and has won many awards.
Close by lies Audley End House and Gardens, where you can explore this decadent Jacobean mansion house and meet the staff in the Victorian Service Wing. You will find gardens designed by Capability Brown which enjoy stunning views across the unspoilt Essex countryside.
A little further afield, but still within easy reach, lies the university city of Cambridge, and for those wishing to visit London, you can take a train from nearby Audley End Station and be in the capital in just over an hour. Shopaholics should also squeeze in a trip to Freeport in Braintree, which offers a wealth of cut price outlet shopping, and, after a busy day, you can return to peaceful S85018 and enjoy a great night’s sleep. Shops ½ mile, pub 100 yards and restaurants ½ mile.

"The cottage was well equipped with modern appliances and good WI-FI. It has a small, pretty garden with outside table and chairs. The only downside of the cottage was the lack of any parking at the property (although access was available to drop off luggage). On-street parking was available within a few hundred yards. The owner was very helpful and available."

"My partner and I have stayed in several holiday cottages over the years. We both agreed that this is the best one yet. It has everything you would need - a real home from home. It is spotlessly clean as well as being tastefully decorated and nice and warm.The kitchen is spacious and very well equipped, likewise the bathroom. The garden is also spacious and very well kept with a variety of interesting plants and shrubs. Fast and reliable Wifi is provided. On arrival, the owner was there to welcome us and to assure us that he would be always available should any questions or problems arise. He was very pet friendly. He also rang the evening before we left to ask if we had enjoyed our stay - the first time that has happened. All in all a wonderful place to stay which we could not recommend more highly."

"Real character cottage with every possible comfort you could wish for to make it home from home. The owners have thought of every little detail and the standard of equipment and extras are first class. It's quite bijou but with plenty of room for two. The garden area is very pretty with excellent patio for eating outside. The only small issue for us is the fact that the stair is very steep and narrow. A bit of a challenge for us oldies! Parking is about 100 yards away at the foot of the hill but a car can be brought to the door for loading/unloading. Owner really helpful and welcoming."

"S85018 provided a very comfortable base for our stay in Essex. A nice mix of old and modern this well equipped cottage is delightful. It also comes with a sunny patio and quaint garden. Very convenient for the local shops and the common. Moreover, it provides easy access to Cambridge, Essex and Suffolk coast as well as London. The owners are extremely helpful and the neighbours friendly."

"The S85018 has all the amenities in there and ready for use. It's a bit of a walk if you are taking public transport, which I didn't really mind. And if you're looking for that quiet neighborhood, this would be it. There's a garden at the back that would probably look nice in spring-summer. It's comfy, quaint and pet-friendly; overall a great place to spend time away from the city."

"Small cottage beautifully restored and equipped. The owner had provided extensive information to help a renter to get the most out of the cottage while also verbally explaining about equipment etc. I would certainly rent this cottage again and would enjoy being able to sit out in the small garden which I couldn't do this time due to very bad weather."

"Very nice stay, only negative is the parking although a lovely neighbour opposite came out on our arrival and offered us the use of her large drive for the duration of our stay. The landlady of the local pud was also very accomodating allowing us to park in the pub car park."
