About this property

Shepherd's Hay is a classic cosy country cottage located in one of the Cotswolds most quintessential villages. The cottage is full of Cotswold charm - mullion windows, beams, Inglenook fireplace and oozes country character and yet provides all the mod cons that one would expect from a very high standard of self catering. This chic cottage is as ideal for couples or family's looking for a weekend retreat or longer break, as it is suitable for groups of four given the extra two beds available. Perhaps above all else this offers the superb mix of having an excellent property set right in the heart of this amazing village. The High Street, where the cottage is situated, is simply gorgeous: beautiful Cotswold buildings, nothing more than the odd car and some horses plus a superb pub! You will struggle to get find a more classic Cotswold cottage!

Stanton is arguably one of the prettiest and most idyllic villages in the whole of the Cotswolds, located at the foot of the Shenberrow Hill in the Northern reaches of the Cotswolds. Without doubt it has one of the most stunning high streets in the region with ancient houses dating back to the 16th Century built in typical Cotswolds style with steeply pitched gables, mullioned windows and honey coloured limestone walls. The village also boasts two magnificent manor houses as well as a restored medieval cross and a church dating back to the Norman period. The village has an Open Gardens Day which normally takes place in June, when the many beautiful gardens can be admired.

The village is absolutely beautiful and so quiet - more horses passed our front door than cars. The local pub is highly recommended, great food and friendly staff who made us very welcome. The cottage was warm and had everything we needed and the enclosed garden was perfect for our dog. Would definitely come back

However, the arrival time of 6 pm was too late in the middle of winter. Don't normally take one but I had a torch in my handbag which without that I could not possibly have seen the key safe as not only was the property in darkness there are no street lights. Three very precarious steps to get up to the property with no handrail is dangerous and on finally entering the light in the small hall was not working. The central heating was very iffy with it coming on and off all the time so the cottage was cold which resulted in me having to light a log fire just to keep the sitting room warm and the other rooms just warm. Very expensive way of heating all day for us. On the plus side the garden was great for the dog as fully enclosed. Would not stay again though.

Considering it was our first time in the Cotswolds it lived up to the hype. A really nice local pub which did good food and were very friendly. Right in the middle of miles and miles of countryside to explore, pitted with lovely villages. Our only negative's if there were any are as follows; The Cottage was fairly clean apart from the second bedroom where my daughters slept. The bedding has bugs in them, which we removed and the sheets themselves smelt musty. The main bedroom was fine. The central heating didn't work for the first couple of days until an engineer came out. It appears that the control module doesn't always sit in the craddle which meant the heating didn't come on most mornings without me having to push it back in. The previous occupiers hadn't emptied the bins so when we came to put rubbish out they were already full. The instructions for putting bins out was also outdated as it was a different council who were in charge of the bins. I had to find that out for myself. The back garden was very well kept. Unfortunately for us it wasn't the time of year to be able to enjoy it.
