    A detached 4 bedroomed cottage in a tranquil setting on the slopes of Whinlatter forest. S84886 is a four bedroomed detached cottage at Seldom Seen in Thornthwaite, a truly tranquil location. Surrounded by woodland on the slopes of Whinlatter forest the cottage is a perfect ’away from it all’ retreat with the delight of visiting red squirrels. It has the most fantastic summer house (or belvedere) with a deck at the top of its fellside garden, which has chairs, table and lighting. It has superb views across the Derwent marshes and to the distant fells. You can walk or cycle from the doorstep and sail on the lake at Bassenthwaite. There is an art gallery and coffee shop in the village and pubs, restaurants and a shop in the neighbouring village of Braithwaite and an abundance of amenities in nearby Keswick. The accommodation is upside down with the living space upstairs to benefit from the views towards Skiddaw and Clough Head.     "A relaxing family break at S84886. A lovely week the weather was very kind meaning we could get out and explore the area. The cottage was clean, cosy with a real fire and all the facilities you need to feel at home. Beautiful contemporary bathroom and a invigorating rainfalll shower room.The only negative point was the parking. We could easily park the car outside the property close to the wall and gate however a very rude neighbour took it upon himself to have a word with my husband complaining that we were parked to close to the gate, hindering being able to get the bins out for collection( obviously we would of moved the car for this and didn’t need to be told), there was simply no need and this put a slight damper on our stay. Saying that we would definitely consider staying at the cottage again simply due to its location. A lovely walk from the doorstep up to the Whinlater Pass and it’s visitors centre is a must, lots of trails to walk from moderate to strenuous, great days out in Keswick, Bowness and a lovely peaceful walk around Crummock Water followed by a little drink at The fantastic Kirkstile Inn Loweswater."

    "A lovely quirky cottage in which we felt immediately at home! A couple of minor issues with no TV working and a leaky sink in one room but this did not detract from our fantastic holiday. The parking area is something of a concept of intrigue!! It's very steep and shallow and we did have a moment of thinking our car was going to topple sideways in our attempts to keep it off road... We reverted to road parking after a couple of days and think that this should be clearly stated in the cottage description as if you had more than one vehicle or a large vehicle, the parking would be a major issue.Would highly recommend however and would happily stay again as the kids, our dog and ourselves loved it and didn't want to come home!!"

    "S84886 is a lovely property with a very interesting garden. We enjoyed sitting in the 'Belvedere' looking out at the fantastic view. It is in a great position for exploring the north west lakes and the proximity to Keswick was good for other activities including the theatre. All in all we had a lovely time. The parking is really only 'on street' but is fine once you realise that there is very little passing traffic."

    "This is the second time we've stayed at S84886 and it was every bit as good as the first. The upside down layout works really well and the beds are really comfortable. The location is great for walking and is only a few minutes by car to Keswick. Brilliant cottage!"

    "Spent a lovely week over Christmas at S84886. The open fire was one of the best features. The kitchen was well stocked and the accommodation was very comfortable. The only one slight downside was the parking. Although there was space outside the cottage it was very difficult to manoeuvre our SUV on to the steep incline so we needed to park across the roadway in front of a different property."
