We loved the quirky decor, which has been thoughtfully curated and coordinated. The kitchen was extremely well equipped, with an efficient dishwasher and good supplies of soaps, cloths, dishwasher tabs etc. (not always the case in holiday cottages in our experience). We enjoyed watching the sunsets across the valley from the little communal garden and some of our party climbed Skiddaw almost from the back door. The cottage was very clean and yes, the sofa covers could do with a wash but appreciate this would be difficult to achieve between lets. We would definitely come and stay again - it’s a lovely, quiet location.

! I don’t think I’ve ever stayed anywhere so grubby in my life. On arrival when you first enter the hall you could smell dogs/dog urine which wasn’t inviting at all and everywhere had cobwebs and spiders so not being cleaned very well considering check in isn’t until 5pm but previous guests have to be out by 10am! It’s really is in serious need of redecorating and the overall cleanliness was that appalling we ended up with 3 poorly children with diarrhoea and vomiting. When we stripped the beds on our last day I was absolutely disgusted to find old dried faeces on the bottom of the mattress protector and on one of the quilts in the room with the 3 single beds….no wonder the children were poorly sleeping in that! Another of the quilts off the beds in that room was all stained and grubby and both bedrooms downstairs smelt foisty, had paint flaking off the walls, grubby skirting boards/walls and threadbare carpet. We had to go out and buy air fresheners and antibacterial wipes just to try and make it smell better. Onto the living areas….the kitchen cupboards are so cluttered with unnecessary bric a brac which no one in a month of Sundays would ever use….we had one tiny single cupboard for a family of 7 to store food in. The sofas are practically broken…one of them you sit on and nearly touch the floor in the middle and one the cushions and covers don’t seem to be able to stay on it as if they don’t fit it anymore! Not sure what was happening with the bins as they didn’t get empty at all that week so we struggled to dispose of our rubbish and they were full from the previous guests! It was a perfect location but unfortunately for us nowhere near a perfect cottage! I have only left 1 star but this was only because it wouldn’t allow me not to leave any! I will be speaking directly to Sykes and sending them photos.
