Situated just 6 six miles from Keswick, along Derwentwater, and just 2 miles away from England's highest mountain. Inside, there is a living room with an array of comfortable sofas, a large flat screen TV and a lovely open fire, ideal for cosy family nights in. The lounge has a light decor, with a deep purple chimney breast, decorated in attractive white flowers. The kitchen has been renovated to accommodate contemporary fixtures and fittings and all the appliances you could need. The property still retains its original stone steps, but has been covered with a brand new carpet for a comfortable living style. Upstairs you will find three bedrooms: one king-size with an en-suite shower room, one double and one twin. There is a separate bathroom with a bath and shower over, and a separate WC located opposite. All bedrooms have luxurious, soft beds and a variety of antique furniture to house all your personal items. And let's not forget about the two wonderful dressing tables and a Victorian feature fireplace. This cottage has a wealth of character, and wonderful countryside views from your bedroom windows. Outside has a small gravelled area with furniture provided. Off-road parking is available for two cars. Keswick is a wonderful location for your holiday, as it has a number of attractions, including Derwentwater, a lake bordered by fells and ancient woodlands. It offers 5km footpaths and boating services. Castlerigg Stone Circle is a circle of stones which was constructed as part of a megalithic tradition that lasted from 3,000 to 900 BC (Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Ages). For a taste of history, why not visit Keswick Museum and Art Gallery? It was reopened in 2014 after extensive refurbishment of its 1898 building. It has a varied collection, featuring Keswick's landscapes, history and culture. Hope Park is nearby with its manicured gardens, a stream, trails, picnic tables and mini golf, a wonderful day out for the whole family. Castle Lodge is the ultimate location for friends and families to relax and unwind.

I recommend that potential customers disregard the previous negative review. The cottage is surprisingly spacious, cosy, and with it dating back to the 1600s it is a unique place to stay. The kitchen large and sufficient for cooking for large groups. We really appreciated the owner setting-up both fires for us before our arrival. There are lots of lovely walks nearby and Keswick is a short drive away. Highly recommend!

However property description requires amendment. Conservatory is actually a porch. Low ceilings and beams make the house uncomfortable for anyone above 5 ft 7 - my husband is 6 ft and spent entire week continually bending. Entrance to bedrooms 2 and 3 only 5 ft clearance. En-suite completely unventilated. No fan operating plus saniflo system on toilet made loud grinding noise on each flush, also drain aroma made it unpleasant to use. King Mattress requires replacement as unable to support two adults. Kitchen very dated and in poor condition aside from fridge freezer. Lounge - unable to use as settees gave off smoke aroma so used the only two comfortable chairs in the house in the kitchen diner. We are on holiday and not there to carry out property inspections and thus refuse to inform owners whilst there. We appreciate the rental cost for the property is lower than elsewhere in borrowdale but there must be minimum standards and in our view Castle Lodge does not meet them.

Superb quiet location with 360 degree beautiful views. Plenty of excellent walks from the cottage. Excellent all round choice and highly likely that will return.
