"Lovely location with stunning views. Great for many local hikes and very close to the Honister Pass. It’s a bit of a drive to Keswick where the main shops are but we didn’t mind. It’s a pretty view along Derwent Water to get there. There are many places to visit locally and enjoy the stunning scenery. We were lucky with the weather but on the last full day it rained and the house smelt damp. It also felt that way when we arrived as there had been a week of heavy rain leading up to our visit. Some of the walls in the first floor bedrooms also looked like there may be water ingress. As we had warm weather for much of our visit I was able to leave the windows open and the warmth seemed to dry out the house. The garden isn’t adjacent to the house, you have to cross the parking area to get to it. Not really a problem but we found we didn’t make use of it. It was a nice size but strangely there wasn’t a washing line so we couldn’t hang our clothes up to dry. There was a drying rack inside the house and a tumble drier but with the lovely weather we had we could have dried the clothes outside. The biggest issue for me was the cleanliness. It was clear on our arrival that the house had been surface cleaned before our arrival somewhat as the kitchen was clean and tidy. However the carpets and floors looked dirty: there was dirt and grim all over. I found dirty tissues under the beds and a lot of dust bunnies. The bathrooms looked like the toilets had been cleaned, but again the floors were dirty, with hairs and dirt all over them. After a seven hour drive to reach the accommodation it was a disappointment to find the property in that state. I phoned the number given and the letting company sent a cleaner around to clean again. I assume that as the property allows pets, and it had been raining a lot before we arrived, that the house had gotten very dirty, however this shouldn’t have prevented it being cleaned thoroughly before our arrival. There were stains all over the carpets and on the sofa in the lounge. The house felt “grimy”.Overall the house is in a stunning location but could do with proper care and attention. It looks and feels run down and I don’t feel it deserves eight stars."

"Very nice property, plenty of space, especially in the top floor bedroom and en-suite.Bear in mind that its (fabulous) location means that local amenities (apart from nearby hotels and cafe) are some distance away but there is an excellent bus service. Two issues with cleanliness. (1) main bedroom carpet was covered in (mainly human) hair (of different colours - suggesting not just immediately prior occupants). The cylinder vacuum cleaner in the property was not up to the task of removing them (our first task on arrival). (2) the verandah / boot room had a substantial amount of cobwebs in the corners suggesting that it is overlooked when cleaning."

"A wonderful place! Well equipped, walks of all types on the doorstep, lamb at the pub in Stonethwaite, warm ginger pudding at the Grange café. That's why we've been coming back for the last 20 years."
