About this property

This barn conversion is located on the hillside of Matterdale, just a short walk from Aira Force near Ullswater. Swallowdale is a one bedroom property with character features and stunning walks from your doorstep, making it an ideal spot for a secluded couple's getaway. The sitting room has a host of features to warm your heart and soul. The wood burner keeps you toasty after a day walking in the fells, and the gloriously high glass door and windows enhance the cosy romantic feel of the cottage. The refurbishment has seen maximum use made of the kitchen space, with built-in appliances, Belfast sink and all the features required of a modern kitchen. There's even a table for two dining set at which to enjoy your meals. Upstairs, the stunning bedroom with king size bed has been lovingly furnished with padding on the low central beam to avoid any unwanted bruises. The cottage is attached to the owner's farmhouse, so the stunning location is there for you to enjoy from the private fields, including a small garden with truly remarkable fell views all of your own. Matterdale itself is a parish district, so a short journey is required to reach local amenities, but this gives you the opportunity to call in at one of the many local villages such as Dockray to sample the best of their shops and restaurants. Activities are on your doorstep at Swallowdale. Aira Beck leads to Aira Force, with the beauty of its waterfall, and if you continue to Ullswater, water activities abound. For a more gentle option, perhaps take a cruise on the lake, or head out of the district to the charming neighbouring town of Penrith. Peacefully positioned in the owner's farmland, Swallowdale offers unique views of the Matterdale Fells and is an ideal location for a couple to enjoy a romantic getaway.

The village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed.
