About this property

This stone mid-terrace miner’s cottage is located just a 10 minute walk from Lake Ullswater and a short drive from Glenridding in the Lake District. This wonderfully, remote cottage is accessed by a mile long, single track road.

Retaining all its traditional charm, the exposed beams, flagstone floors and wood burning stove create a cosy atmosphere in the Lake District countryside. Enjoy sublime serenity in the garden with views of the fells and wrap up by the fire on chilly evenings. This property is set alongside 5 other cottages and is fitting for a family holiday or romantic country stay.

The open plan living room is a quaint space with rustic wooden features, a wood burning stove and richly coloured exposed beams. Ideal for cosy evenings and a hot drink. Follow the beams into the kitchen where there is a flagstone floor, modern amenities and a handy breakfast bar. Up the steep stairs and you reach the main bedroom.

A minimalist main bedroom features more rugged beams. There are stunning views of the fells to wake up to. In the other bedroom, there’s a built-in bunk bed. Recommended for families with children over 5 years old as the staircase is an open tread "ladder" style and are steep.

In the garden, you’ll be struck by the wilderness of your location. A grassed space with seating, the garden overlooks the towering fells and brings nature right up to the doorstep. Take a deep breath and expect crisp, fresh air alongside your morning coffee.

Glenridding village is accessed along a single track country road. It’s a half hour walk or half an hours drive from the property. Glenridding is a popular spot for holidaying hikers who’re visiting Helvellyn, England’s third highest mountain. There are some hotels serving country grub and convenience shops. Lake Ullswater is just a short walk away. You could also visit Aira Force for its 60-foot waterfall or Glencoyne Bay north of Glenridding. Ambleside and Windermere can be accessed through Kirkstone Pass.

Seldom Seen is a cosy traditional property in a peaceful rural setting, perfect for exploring Helvellyn or for an intimate stay close to the shores of Lake Ullswater.

The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river.

Cottage had everything that we required and we really enjoyed the wood burning stove.

Perhaps only suitable for a couple and children rather than 4 adults. And certainly not for the infirm. But our 9 year old loved pretending she was Heidi climbing upstairs. The setting is stunning. We heard and then saw two woodpeckers from the cottage. We saw red squirrels and heard a cuckoo. The track up to the cottage is fine if you drive slowly. The kitchen is very well equipped. We heartily recommend this holiday home.

We are familiar with the area so the access track wasn't a surprise, and easily managed with care. The cottage was warm, comfortable and has been sensitively modernised, and the location perfect for a quiet walking holiday.
