"Nice place with nice views. Comfortable with a upside down layout.Downside. Central heating did not workHot water was ok Underfloor heating in bathroom did not seem to come on and light over mirror in bathroom did not work . Luckily there was an open fire"

"An amazing cottage overall! We feel so honored to have been able to stay here, the owners really went all out to make this cottage feel homey.Few criticisms but thought they would be worth mentioning to improve future stays:- High chair did not have the correct safety straps and was very grubby- Should include location of where highchair/cot is within the cottage (Took a while to find)- Lots of cobwebs and alive/dead flies- Stiff lock on main bathroom - No batteries for low charge smoke alarm (Was beeping)"

"Lovely 2nd stay at the Bothy - it probably won't be our last!!"
Paul – 16 Feb 2018
"Cottage was lovely, driveway was fun in the snow but as long as took slowly was easy to do. Didn't find the pub that was meant to be within a mile the nearest we found was brackenrigg inn but that was 1.9miles away. Excellent views from front door. Great week away.. Proposed on valentines... She said yes!!"

"Fab new year break with family at S18648. Lovely cosy well equipped cottage. Would definately return."
Susan – 22 Dec 2017
"I loved the cottage and would stay again, but there were some issues with equipment. We couldn't make the heater in the conservatory work. The oven wouldn't turn on. The wifi wasn't working 1/2 the time. Nevertheless, I would certainly stay again, hoping that these issues were fixed, since all other aspects were just as I wanted."
Samuel – 24 Nov 2017
"Absolutely gorgeous! 100% would recommend."
Barry – 8 Sep 2017
"Enjoyed viewing the fells from the front of the house and from the conservatory also the quiet location provided by this property."
Mark – 25 Aug 2017
"Interesting cottage in a beautiful location but let down by poor standard of cleaning especially in kitchen"
Confirmed guest – 11 Aug 2017
"A relaxing two weeks. enjoyed the Lakes but always looked forward to returning to this cottage. The two log fires being a major plus"
Val – 2 Jun 2017
"The cottage was ideal for 3 generations as it was on 3 levels and we were able to allocate the conservatory space to the grandchildren. It was great to have a garden at the back and space to sit out at the front.Possibly it needs to be made clearer that there is no access to WIFI and the radio signal is very weak Overall we all enjoyed the experience and my grandchildren loved both the house and the Lake District. They described the cottage as like the Tardis--meaning that it didn't look that big from the outside but was very big when you got in!"
Cinead – 20 Jan 2017
"Had a great week at the 'Old Bothy', near Gowbarrow on Ullswater. Hope to make it back some time in the future. Recommend it to anyone who seeks a quiet week away from it all."
John – 28 Dec 2016
"We stopped in the bothy fora week over Christmas. Unfortunately the day before people broke up from work for Christmas the boiler broke down, leaving us with no hot water or heating. Thanks to the owners acting swiftly, they had an engineer there that evening. He had to return the next morning after exhausting efforts to get it working, with a new part . This didn't work either. I would like to thank him for his dedication in traveling to Carlisle for another part and missing his xmas works do . Success at last . Due to his kindness we really enjoyed the bothy and surrounding area. Lovely warm place and very peaceful. Managed to get three days walking in a beautiful location. Just two minor snags are parking is tight if u have two vehicles and not having wifi for kids in the evening and for planning purposes became a niggle . All the same we would visit again."
Ann
"My brother and his family as well as myself had a very nice week. The place was clean, comfortable and warm with a lovely view. If there is one grumble it was that a chap turned up on the Monday (I think, lose track of the days when on hols) to say he was here to re-stain the woodwork outside but would need access to the house. We had no way to prove he was who he said he was as there was no mobile signal nor wifi signal for any of us (bliss!). Turned out he was a lovely chap. But being an ex-police officer it did go against my training, a note left by someone saying this was happening would have been appreciated. A small matter, didn't really spoil the holiday. I'd come again."
Samuel
"Gorgeous property in a lovely location though parking is difficult and no Wifi everything else is perfect. Bundles of charm and otherwise a well equipped holiday home."
Lisa
"Lovely cottage set in a beautiful location."
John
"Wonderful place to stay with everything you need. The log fires and bathrooms are a treat. More spacious than the pictures indicate with room to spread out. Well worth the money. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay."
Ann-Marie
"S18648 is in a lovely location close to Ullswater with beautiful views from the front patio where we enjoyed evening bbq's (need to take your own!). The cottage is quirky but very comfortable with good central heating, hot water, showers, log burner/fire and even heated bathroom floors ! Kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to cater for 6. We are a family that enjoys walking and although we thought we could manage and even enjoy not having wifi we found it annoying not having it by the end of the week particularly for getting the mountain weather reports and planning days out. I would suggest that the owners seriously consider installing it as it really does make life a lot easier. Other than that S18648 was great thank you and good value for money."
Janet
"We had a wonderful week in S18648, the cottage was just perfect. We visited Pooley Bridge to eat at The Crown and see the new bridge over the river Eamont, Patterdale to Silver point and back was a great walk and fantastic views, had a steamer ride to Howtown where we walked around Hallin Fell and again the views were fantastic and we saw Roe deer at the site of an ancient fort at Dunmallard Hill. Great walks fantastic views and lots of wildlife, a great place to stay. We will definitely be back."
Peter
"Nice cottage in a good location just off Ullswater. Good range of equipment in the cottage and decent amount of space for family of 2 adults + 3 kids."
Nicolas
"We had an amazing christmas week at S18648. Great location, I think Ullswater is one of the most beautiful place to stay in the lake district. The house is very comfortable. As a cook I've particularly enjoyed the kitchen and equipment/utensils you can find.Would definitely stay again!"
Angela
"A lovely old cottage set in country side near ullswater. We were lucky enough to see red squirrels, deer and lots of birds in the woods at that back, from the back window. Warm and cosy, and well appointed. Enjoyed our stay immensely."
Stu
"Quirky layout but lovely cottage. Great location."
Sue
"S18648 is a cosy and comfortable cottage in a good position. It is clean, spacious and very well equipped. Would definitely visit again. Only drawbacks - no wifi (which must be a necessity these days!), no barbecue and difficult to go for walks from the door as you have to negotiate a busy main road."
john
"Great location, the cottage had everything we needed and more [home from home]."
Mark
"This is a beautiful cottage in a lovely setting above Ullswater. The location is very quiet with easy access to the mountains and many of the Lakeland attractions. The cottage is an unusual layout, with the lounge and kitchen on ground level then two bedrooms and bathroom in the basement. Also on this level is a lovely conservatory area that looks out over the garden. On the first floor is what was the loft but has now been converted into a small bedroom. This one is ideal for the children due to low ceilings, particularly above the beds. The place is well appointed, though rather eclectic. There are information leaflets in the lounge along with a folder containing information about the house and surrounding area. Sadly this folder is rather messy with things crossed out and written in above etc. The folder also says that there is a guest house at the end of the lane that has a licence and acts as a bar. This is not the case. we went in there only to be told that the owner was unaware of this information and could not serve us unless we were guests. The next nearest pub is about a five minute drive away. The cottage was fairly clean but clearly hadn't been done properly. There was hair in the bath, suggesting that it hadn't been cleaned and there are cobwebs in the bedrooms and lounge. A sarcastic note from the "oven fairy" asks guests to put oil in the bottom of the oven, perhaps the fairy should consider that the guests are generally different each time rather than tenants. I would stay here again as it's fine for my requirements."
Caroline
"It was tired, in need of some updating. Shower in ensuite didn't work. Other georgeous shower I couldn,t turn on . Confusion over bin bags for collection. After several crossings out said white bags but only blue available, said bin was at top of drive but was at bottom by house. We did take the bag up, but was uncollected when we left. Being a bit petty but it could easily be so much better. Windows need a good clean! We have stayed in lots of your cottages so know the standard they can be."
David
"Great location with lovely views, particularly liked the garden room with log burner for cosy evenings. Has all the equipment needed for an easy stay, only criticism was the sensitivity of the smoke detector in the kitchen and the at times smoky calor gas hob burners. The spiral staircase was a nice feature, but if staying with small children you will need to keep an eye on them when using it."
rachel
"Lovely property with lots of space and very well equipped. There was 7 of us in our party ages ranging from 7 months to 85 years space and location perfect."
Angela
"This cottage is a wonderful place to stay for a relaxing holiday. You had fabulous views of the mountains and lakes. We sat outside at the front of the house which you can see in the photo. It was peaceful and the weather was extremely warm when we were there. We even got a little sunburnt!"
Jonathan
"Visited the Lakes for walking and a family occasion. The cottage was perfect for all age groups, with essentially two sitting rooms so people could enjoy quiet time. The facilities were perfect and everything actually worked! Highlights of the cottage - (a) Location in less touristy area, but close to big walks such as Helvellyn (b) Kitchen items, like washing powder, foil, salt and pepper, etc left from previous visitors which made it feel more like a home. It's so annoying having to shop for these type of things for a week hire. (c) walk in shower (d) balcony windows"
James
"Fantastic cottage, fantastic location"
Gary
"Excellent location with superb views, no wifi but very relaxing and close to all necessary amenities and sights of interest, would highly recommend S18648."
Lisa
"Lovely cottage our third time at the bothy. Well equipped with fantastic views. Beautiful and clean with an amazing power shower, just what you need after a day walking! Will be back again and again! "
Previous guest
"Beautiful accommodation, very comfortable. Could do with some cushions for the front garden furniture, and as the rear garden is rather nice, some garden furniture could be provided. Also, the grill pan was dirty. Apart from that, a great holiday, despite the weather! Would definitely come back! Sept 2012."
Previous guest
"Lovely cottage, well equipped with some beautiful finishing touches, also in an ideal location for walking and exploring Ullswater, will be definitely be recommending to friends. Aug 2012."
Previous guest
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The parking was no problem but I think the explanation should be clearer that the parking is not directly outside the house. We are regular visitors to the Lake District but this was a our first stay in Ullswater and it did not disappoint. April 2012."
Previous guest
"We have stayed in many cottages and this one is the best equipped. Fabulous location. March 2012."

"A lovely property from which to enjoy the surrounding area and to relax in after a day in the hills. Dec 2011."

"Very nice property. The owners have thought of most things. Clean and well appointed. Dec 2011."

"A very well equipped cottage with everything you need. It’s on three levels when you include the upstairs bedroom and is very roomy. The conservatory downstairs is great to relax in after a day out on the fells! The upstairs bedroom is in the apex of the roofline, so put the shortest people there so that you don’t have complaints of bruised foreheads! Local eateries include the Brackenrigg Inn which is only around a mile or two away (have their venison burger if available), the Pooley Bridge Inn and the Sun Inn (also at Pooley Bridge). If you’re desperate then the Crown at Pooley Bridge is ok, but a bit down-market for my tastes. S18648 is a great location to access Ullswater and the surrounding fells. Glenridding is a short drive away and is an ideal starting point for the walk to Helvellyn via Striding Edge (well recommended, but wait for fine weather). I would certainly stay at S18648 again. June 2011. "
Previous guest
"Excellent property, if anything the photos don’t do it justice, or the views! Feb 2011."
Previous guest
"This beautifully, tastefully and thoughtfully equipped property should appeal to everyone. A true "home from home" we wanted for absolutely nothing. The cottage is easy to find, in a beautiful location with stunning views and wonderful walks from the doorstep. I would not hesitate to recommend this property and would love to make a return visit. Dec 2010."
