    First class accommodation at a former railway station, a unique holiday home from which to explore Cumbria and the Lake District.
    You’ll be on the right track during your stay at The Station Master’s House, which forms part of the former railway station in the hamlet of Torver. Close to Coniston Water, this is an excellent starting point to explore the nearby countryside and wildlife, and the Lakeland Fells including Coniston Old Man. The property has been thoughtfully furnished throughout, with a well-equipped kitchen and a living/dining room which boasts comfy leather sofas. The property offers two double bedrooms, one of which has an additional single bed, and they both have sumptuous bed linen adding an extra comfort. They both enjoy views over the beautiful garden and surrounding area. This spacious cottage still has the distinctive feel of its former use, with a raised lawned terrace which is part of the old platform - the perfect place to sit and relax.
    The nearby Lakeland villages of Coniston and Hawkshead are idyllic and have an abundance of shops and cafés. For the more adventurous, why not take to the tree top challenge at Grizedale Forest, or venture along the many paths by foot or by bike. For steam enthusiasts, you can still take to the tracks with a ride on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite trains near Ulverston, or the elegant Victorian Steam Yacht Gondola which sails between March and November on Coniston Water. There are so many activities to keep you busy all year round in this wonderful area. Beach 18 miles. Shop 2½ miles, pub 10 yards, restaurant 100 yards. The Station Master’s House (ref UK1144) can be booked together with Ticket Office (ref UK1145) to accommodate up to 7 guests.

    "Great place to stay with lovely walks on the doorstep and two excellent pubs close to the property. Very comfortably furnished with everything you need for your stay. Two decent sized bedrooms, a large lounge and well-equipped kitchen. A bonus for us that it is dog-friendly."

    "Lovely spot with two near pubs (book first for food). A very comfortable cottage on the whole- good kitchen. Had a problem with the heating on last night (too cold- heating had gone off). The water pressure in the shower is very low (needs a pump) although it does taste delicious, coming from it's own well. Also, entrance could do with widening. A good stay though- we enjoyed our time in this beautiful area- excellent walking."

    "This is a great place to stay! Very cosy, with a well equipped kitchen (but take a knife sharpener!), comfy beds and a large living room with a huge tv. We didn't use the garden as it was October and windy and wet, but it was lovely watching the local birds splashing about in the pond at the back, and I imagine the planting looks great in the summer. There are good walks to Dow Crag and Coniston Old Man straight out of the front door, and more leisurely expeditions to Coniston Water and the ferries are very easy too. We also went to Ravenglass and rode on the railway - a 45-minute drive. Torver is tiny but has two pubs within staggering distance, a deli for when you can't be bothered to make your own breakfasts or packed lunches, and what may be the only telephone box in the UK that's been converted into a fish tank! Highly recommended."

    "Comfortable and cosy holiday accomodation. Kitchen very well equipped. Is well maintained and clean throughout. Excellent base for a walking holiday with various walks direct from door. Torver is very small but has two pubs and a small deli. Main shopping in nearby Coniston. We had an excellent holiday."

    "We had another lovely holiday at the station masters house. The accommodation is very sizeable, clean and equipped with everything you may need. The garden is absolutely beautiful! Full of swallows and rabbits which our dog loved watching. The walk from the gate at the side of the garden leads into a path to the left, from here you can walk to lake Coniston which is great to do. We didnt want to leave but I’m sure we shall return again."

    "The Station Master’s House is very comfortable & homely, with attention to detail. Because of it’s historical use, the layout is ‘long & thin’, with rooms spread along a corridor. It is very well equipped, with everything a guest can expect & more. The bathroom is stunning & the kitchen is lovely too. There are two pubs at a stone’s throw from the cottage. There are several footpaths from the garden gate leading to lovely walks without needing to use the car, & without needing to walk on the road. There is no view from the property, but a delightful garden, with the added interest of the old station platform."

    "The cottage was brilliant could not fault it what so ever we had a great time it was a shame nothing was open like the put across the road or the bakery / buttie shop opposite the pub next door is really nice and the food is amazing we found the walk in to the next village was lovely it was a little far to walk with are 3 year old boy but the older kiddys loved the walk it's a stunning place and very relaxed"
