Perched in an elevated position above Windermere and Ambleside, this pretty detached cottage has its own paved patio area at the front of the property, provides a superb, spacious holiday base in the heart of the southern Lake District. Within walking distance is Lake Windermere, with shops, restaurants, pubs and visitor attractions such as the World of Beatrix Potter, Bowness Bay and Pier and the Windermere Steamboat centre. With views of the surrounding fells and walking and cycling from the door. A short drive north is the Brockhole Visitor centre, Ambleside and Grasmere. Golf available nearby. Shop 300 yards, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

"Comfortable, spacious relaxing bungalow. Parking space difficult to get in and out of, and garden in need of some attention, but overall a place we would consider staying at again"

"Good choice for those who have no car and can walk well. Supermarket and station only 15 minutes walk, lakeside and town takes a little longer but worth it. Plenty to explore in Windermere and Bowness area. Onsite parking is poor and difficult in the dark. Bed is very uncomfortable. Many issues with little, annoying, things, well recorded in the visitors book and ignored by the owners. Not awful by any means, but not on our list of properties for a second visit."

"Well equipped and comfortable.However, on approach the property did not look very inviting - paintwork needs attention and the front garden is quite overgrown. Parking in front of garage is quite difficult.Even so the inside of the property was clean and spacious, and it is likely we will return."

"Overall a great cottage. Best points great location fantastic shower lovely view from the front room. Downside, cheap cutlery, cheap towels & the cottage wasn't very clean. Mould on ceiling in shower which had obviously been there for some time. A used disposable shaving blade was on the floor in the bathroom.The bungalows furnishings are old fashioned and it desperately needs a makeover but all the basics are good. Also I formed the impression the neighbours just above us were not very friendly and the car parking was a bit of an issue."

"Lovely cottage, spotless and with a lovely view from lounge. The cottage had everything we needed, was very comfortable and situated close to all of the local amenities. Only slight criticism would be that kerb side appeal when we first arrived was a little disappointing. The front of the bungalow needed attention as weeds and moss had run amok and potted plants were in desperate need of water and some tlc. Before settling into the cottage on arrival, we spent time weeding and sweeping the front garden and tended to the plants. Aside from this, our stay was very pleasant and we enjoyed it immensely, as did our two jack russells Bill and Eddie."

"Lovely location close enough to walk to Windermere or Bowness and the single track road beside the bungalow leads up to the folds and a beautiful tarn within a mile so we really liked the location for dog walking. The decor is a little dated and the garden is only a small trianglular patio at the front of the property which is open to drives to other properties and the road so not possible to let our dog outside unless on a lead. We failed to check WiFi availability before we booked and did find it inconvenient not having WiFi , perhaps the owners would get more booking if they did install free WiFi?"

"Had a really enjoyable stay and the location was great for exploring the beautiful area, we did venture out a lot until the snow, obviously that is the fault of no one. This was our first visit to the Lake District and we would definitely love to do it again especially as the people are so dog friendly which is very important to us as we never leave our dog behind. The only problem we encountered was no Wi Fi connection which was a shame because it somewhat inhibited some of the places we wanted to visit."

"Nice warm bungalow in a quite location, however, brochure states pet friendly - there is a charge per dog, cannot quite understand what that charge is for. There is no secure area for the dog, garden is unfenced with open access to the road so maybe the charge is due to the fact that the dog has to spend all it's time indoors unless you are prepared to walk the dog continuously.I would not recommend this property to other pet owners due to the reason stated above"

"We found S18733 a lovely place to stay, the bungalow was warm. comfortable and very spacious, we particularly found the utility room very useful which meant we could clean the dogs and ourselves before we entered the property.It is in a good location and is easy to get to all the popular locations, although it is in a residential area we found it very quiet and peaceful.We only had one minor problem while we were there which was quickly rectified by the owners.All in all a good week was had and we would stay there again,"

"Really enjoyed our stay at S18733. Great walks from the door; especially for our elderly dog who struggles now with big hills. Easy access to places we like to visit eg Langdale, Hawkshead & Keswick. Welcome tray a nice touch. Patio great place to sit. We felt very at home. "Nice week despite poor weather. Bungalow well equipped and cosy. The beds however are old and lumpy. The bedding too is poor quality. Good location between Bowness and Windermere. Real shame there's no garden for dogs."

"Walkable distance to both Bowness and Winderemere. Close to Grasmere and Kendal. Cruise on Lake Windermere was great. Fantastic scenery. Best tip - ignore Sat Nav and keep to the main roads."

"yew tree was a lovely bungalow. the couches I think were a bit worn and it would have been great if there had been a high back chair for those who cant sit low. although we knew there was no enclosed garden it would have been good for the dog. wifi would have been handy also. overall yew tree was great just a few things that would make it first class. our thanks to the owners for a good holiday."

"Fab property. Very comfortable and very well equipped. It had everything we could possibly wish for plus more on top. The utility room is very useful when coming back from walks with dirty boots and dogs! Only thing I would highlight is that if you stay with dogs and they need to go out during the night, there isn't a garden to let them out in. Location of property is on top of a hill conveniently located to Bo'ness and Windermere. Pleasant walks down to both but anot uphill walk back. Nicely located for visits around the Lake District by car. Didn't feel like anything was too far away. All in all we had a great holiday and the fantastic property really helped seal it for us."

"We were grateful to the owners for allowing us to stay here at very short notice as our original cottage's heating had broken down. It is very spacious compared to some of the more traditional properties and very warm and cosy. We enjoyed being able to park right outside and the dogs loved the park at the bottom of the hill. It's possible to walk into Windermere or Bowness, about 15 minutes, and some nice walks straight out from the house."

"We tend not to go back to the same location for UK holidays as it gives us the chance to see more of the country, so for that reason we would not go back to the same place. Overall the bungalow was lovely. The downside of this was the bed in the master bedroom. it had seen better days and was not very comfortable. The plus side were the kitchen which was a good size with all the main items required, and the bathroom and shower room were very good. The utility area was useful with wet clothes after a walk in the rain. Parking was off road, and the location and views were very good. Nice to be able to either walk into town, or into the country without driving."

"Spacious and comfortable bungalow in a good location.Exceptional to have such a good shower in the main bedroom en-suite; it was like being at home. This is a real plus compared to the majority of holiday lets. Also good to have a bathroom to serve the second bedroom.One downside - the Microwave is past it's "sell buy" date and should be replaced. It is a potential hygiene risk.We enjoyed our stay.Thank you"

"A comfortable bungalow with two nice bathrooms in a handy location near to Bowness and Windermere towns. Beds are all very comfortable and the lounge is large and has plenty of space. The piano in the lounge is a waste of space and needs to be thrown out as it doesn't play being out of tune with many dead keys. The main downside is the position of the property at the top of steep climb and very close to two roads which are not busy but feel very close when cars pass by. Parking in the drive is very difficult and the roadside proved a good idea at times."

Our 7 days at S18733 was brilliant , cottage had everything we needed , clean comfortable a real home from home feel . "As other reviewers have confirmed this is equipped to a very high standard throughout. Very comfortable. The picture of the kitchen/diner on the site makes it look a little cramped for dining but there is plenty of room. The double bed is extremely comfortable - so much so that we will be buying the same mattress shortly for our home ! Lovely deep bath and efficient heating system. Some reviews have commented on noisy neighbours but it was extremely quiet when we were there. However, I wouldn't want to sit outside on the patio as you are in full view of neighbours and the road - there is no garden as such. Didn't detract from our visit at all and if we were to return to Windermere we would certainly go back to S18733. Fully recommended - as perfect as you are going to get !"

"Excellent holiday home! Only grouse is the external key safe. Good idea in principal but this particular safe fell to pieces as soon as I tried to open it! It was impossible to lock the keys in it on departure. In our case problem was solved by arrival of cleaners as we were leaving.One suggestion, it would help elderly people.If the shower had hand rails."
