Dating back to 1810, this one-bed home is a classic chocolate-box retreat styled in a traditional English country cottage theme and sits along a quiet lane just behind the main square. Hawkshead is largely pedestrianised, inviting relaxed strolls through cobbled streets and pretty ginnels lined with whitewashed cottages and colourful planting in warmer months. You'll find gift shops, galleries, tea rooms and cosy pubs for light bites or heartier evening meals. The National Trust's Bookshop is just 100 metres away. A little further afield, Esthwaite Water (1 mile) offers peaceful fishing, and the surrounding area is renowned for superb walking, road cycling and mountain biking. Coniston Water (6 miles) is ideal for boat hire and paddleboarding.

On arrival, step through the elegant lattice porch and into a welcoming lounge where deep cushioned sofas are arranged around a wood burner, creating a wonderfully cosy atmosphere. Outside, guests can pull up briefly to unload (please avoid the medical centre bays) before using the permit for parking in the nearby car park.
