Swan Lodge is a fabulous, cute getaway for couples. It is ultra romantic and your loved one will feel very special.

Swan Lodge is a gorgeous little country getaway, nestled in two acres of woodland next door to the fabulous Chesterfield Canal in Nottinghamshire. It is rural, blissful and perfect for a few days or a week away. The views and sunsets are magnificent to the west and nearby you will find rivers, woodlands and farmland with rare fauna and flora. There are lots of fabulous places to eat close by in Misterton, Gringley on the Hill, Drakeholes, Everton and Bawtry, that is if you don’t want to barbecue in the pod or in your private garden.

Robin Hood’s county offers many attractions and beautiful scenery. You can walk along the canal all the way into Chesterfield if you are seriously energetic or you can enjoy a boat trip on the water. The boat trips are run by the Canal and River Trust and can be picked up at Drakesholes, Retford and Ranby. Sherwood Forest and the infamous Major Oak enjoy much local folklore. It was supposedly where Robin Hood and his merry men slept. The tree is between eight hundred and a thousand years old. The art and visitor centre in the forest boasts delightful art studios and a cafe and it regularly hosts special events.

When staying at Swan Lodge, you are on the borders of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire so the world is your oyster as far as entertainment goes. The market towns of Bawtry in South Yorkshire, Retford in North Nottinghamshire and Gainsborough in Lincolnshire are all within fifteen minutes drive of Swan Lodge. Bawtry boasts an excellent selection of boutique shops, trendy bars and wonderful restaurants. Bawtry enjoys an interesting history being first recorded as Baltry in 1199 and as Bautre in 1677.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Park is roughly twenty minutes from the lodge with around 475 animals including over 60 different species. Most of the animals are endangered or threatened in the wild and include polar bears, lions, tigers, black rhinos and many more.  There are animal and rangers talks, live shows, animal feeding, animal experiences where you can get up close and safari nights with live music.

Doncaster Racecourse is half an hour away, one of the oldest racecourses for horse racing in Britain. It usually hosts 38 race fixtures a year and is home of the prestigious Cazoo St Leger Festival in September which draws thousands of racegoers. The racecourse is also used for other events including Christmas Live party nights.

For some local history you can visit the ancient Gainsborough Old Hall, a fantastic, well-preserved timber framed manor house. Another popular trip is to Europe’s largest antiques centre at Hemswell. Lincoln Catherdral and Lincoln Castle are popular too. If you fancy a day by the sea, you can head to Cleethorpes Beach which is roughly an hour away.
