Friary Cottage is a Grade II Listed, detached and renovated town cottage. Well-positioned and beautifully presented with some antique furniture, it boasts original, quirky features and is only a 5-minute walk from the centre of the town and a 3-minute walk from Ludlow’s train station. A cosy woodburner and gas fired Aga are amongst the treasures of the house. Guests can also enjoy a private enclosed rear garden, a separate, small walled courtyard, and it is located on one of the most prominent streets of this charming medieval town. Ludlow is overshadowed by its own majestic castle, as it was once, like York, a seat of Government in Tudor and Stuart England. Now hosting the famous food festivals and events throughout the year, there is always a lively atmosphere here. It has a reputation for fine foods, award-winning restaurants, speciality and antique shops and even a racecourse. An excellent base to explore the unrivalled countryside for picnicking and walking or nearby towns such as Bridgnorth and Bewdley (Severn Valley Railway), Ironbridge, Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Tenbury Wells and Leominster. The cathedral city of Hereford with its chained library and Mappa Mundi are all within a short drive, as are historic houses such as Witley Court, Berrington Hall, Croft Castle, Stokesay Castle and Powis Castle on the Welsh borders. Acton Scott, an historic working farm and the Secret Hills Discovery Centre are all just a few of the nearby attractions, so you will never be short of something to see. Supermarkets 50 yards, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

    John & June – 31 Jan 2020
"Great cottage in a great location! Our hosts Louise and Mark were very welcoming and helpful, and the cottage is comfortable and beautifully furnished. Ludlow has an intriguing history and great pubs too - as well as many walks in the immediate vicinity."
    Karen – 8 Jan 2020
"Many plus sides to the cottage:- Great cottage with an enviable location right on the fringe of Ludlow. We had all the home comforts that we could hope for. The log fire was lovely and welcoming and the AGA cooker was amazing. Very spacious cottage with big rooms apart from the lounge which was small compared to the other rooms (kitchen and bedrooms etc..) but it was cosy. The only negatives we had was that firstly the wooden stairs were very slippery to get to the bedrooms and very steep. Ok if you had shoes or slippers on but in your stocking feet they were difficult to get up the last three steps. Also we were unaware of the graveyard the cottage overlooked until we arrived which freaked our daughter out quite a bit (a personal thing but may be best to inform guests of this feature)."

    Louise – 14 Oct 2019
"Loved staying in this beautiful cottage. Lovely welcome from Louise the owner. Ideally located. Home from home."

"Couldn’t fault it, we had a fabulous time. The house was perfect for us and our two dogs, and Ludlow is a really lovely town, full of friendly people and plenty of independent shops and places to eat. Not to mention the Castle and the Shropshire Hills on your doorstep..."

"Lovely character cottage. Everything has been thought of for your comfort and convenience. Owners are really helpful lovely people. The garden is fully enclosed so perfect for dogs, but there is a lot of planting to trample for young dogs - sorry Louise! If the garden's not at it's best that's our fault! Would highly recommend, but it is at the bottom of the hill into town, so anyone with mobility problems should consider this. Overall, one of the nicest, most comfortable cottages we have stayed in and we stay in a lot. If you are into walking or shopping the location is perfect, but you may have to travel a little further for activities to suit teenage boys. Still, most things in less than an hours drive."

"A true home away from home - I really don't think we could have expected anything more, from meeting the host on the way in, the fresh flower in every room, the standard of fittings, to the lovely way the house was decorated. Perfect. The Kitchen is a delight and the focus of our time together. The only problem - Fighting over who had the glorious back bedroom ;).Thank you"
    Tina – 5 Apr 2019
"Excellent holiday cottage, great ambiance, great facilities, love the furnishings, a real treasure.... definitely upto Landmark Trust standards. Thank you Louise and Mark"
    Richard – 16 Mar 2019
"An excellently equipped comfortable cottage with the added touch of fresh flowers in all rooms. The only downside was parking but only to be expected in a historical town. We had three cars between us and found that we could pay £10 upfront for the week in the lower car park near Tesco's, across the road."
    Mark – 9 Mar 2019
"Cottage absolutely lovely we had a wonderful holiday and loved Ludlow"
    Paul – 9 Jan 2019
"I booked this cottage on the high recommendations and can fully understand why they are so high. Absolutely loved our stay over the New Year. The welcome was lovely and we were made to feel at home straight away. Louise even took me to show me the best place to park our cars. The cottage is beautiful. Lovely and warm. I spent most of my time in the fabulous kitchen and enjoyed my very first usage of an Aga!! There is everything that you could ever need in the kitchen. The beds are all extremely comfortable with all 6 of us commenting on how fantastic the bedding was! Real good quality and we all slept very well!!The bathrooms are immaculate and very modern with wonderful showers. Location of the property is one of the best we have stayed in over the years. 5 minute walk into the centre of town. Tesco and Aldi across the road. Ludlow Brewery 5 minutes away which I personally recommend a visit and a tour. Dog walking is directly adjacent through the church yard and onto the common. Cross the river and up the bank leads to an amazing view of Ludlow Castle. There is an amazing cafe by the weir too that does a fabulous bacon sandwich!!We loved Ludlow and could not have been happier staying in this wonderful cottage. Thank you Louise for allowing us to share your treasure!!"

"It was not our first visit to Friary Cottage, which gives a good indication of our love of it. It is spacious, warm, cosy and SO beautiful. It is like home from home to me.I am of a 'certain' age, so the only slight drawback for me is the walk up the hill into Ludlow itself, but it does get easier the more you do it!!There is a small starter pack provided by Louise (mine host) which is a great help. Across the road there is a Tesco and just a little further an Aldi, not to mention the wonderful markets and shops in Ludlow where you can by everything you need. The history and architecture is second to none, just stroll and submerge yourself in it, and when refreshment is needed, there are lovely cafes and pubs to sate your needs. It is a pilgrimage for us now, we arrive mid December, when all the lights and decorations adorn every shop, cafe, pub, restaurant, it quite 'Dickensian'.I urge you, please go and experience it for yourself, like myself, you will want to keep returning to get your 'fix' of Ludlow."
    Kate – 2 Jan 2019
"We had an absolutely lovely stay at Friary Cottage. We stayed over Christmas, for a week, and really enjoyed exploring Ludlow. The cottage was well equipped, and cooking on the Aga was great fun. Comfy beds, modern bathrooms, good central heating, and it all just works brilliantly. I was worried about lack of parking but the owners let us use a parking space they rent round the corner for a tiny charge, so that made a big difference. For a property of this size, character, charm and comfort it's a total bargain, and we really hope to come back. Thank you!"
