Stockbatch Granary sleeping up to 14 guests

Peacefully situated within extensive grounds with plenty of space for 14 guests, Stockbatch Granary makes an ideal retreat at any time of year.
Peacefully situated within the extensive grounds of the Pitchford Estate, these four properties offer superb holiday accommodation. The Generals’ Quarters (UKC2646) is named after a previous owners of the hall, General Sir Robert and Charles Grant. Guests will be situated in the West Wing, the oldest part of the hall constructed in 1549 (but with beams dating back to the 1250s), and the Hall’s Northern Range. The accommodation will be based on The Tudors and the late Georgian period. Guests will notice the two distinct periods as they move around the General’s Quarters, and will be able to decide which period rooms they wish to sleep in.

Windy Mundy Farm (RNG) has been converted from an 18th-century threshing barn and deer shelter and is located on an old deer park at the centre of the estate. The bespoke oak dining table offers a dining arrangement for 16 guests. Built on top of a south-facing hill overlooking Row Brook, and part of a working arable farm, it is surrounded by fields of wheat and barley and has spectacular, far-reaching views towards the Shropshire hills. Enclosed by a long stone wall, the farm has its own courtyard garden with a terrace and barbecue.

Stockbatch Granary (RJ6) is reached by a mile-long drive passing through the mixed arable land of Stockbatch Farm, with its fields of corn encircled by woodland. It comprises an 18th-century granary, clapperboard barn, stables and cowsheds, and nestles on a south-facing slope, at the bottom of which a stream wends its way gently along. A courtyard garden enclosed by a red sandstone wall provides a pleasant sitting-out area from which to survey the countryside views.

Tree House Barn (rddj) is a sensitively restored detached barn conversion which enjoys views of the world famous Pitchford Tree House (the oldest tree house in the world).

Within 6 miles of each property is historic Shrewsbury with its fascinating architecture, castle, museums, fine shops and wealth of traditional inns and restaurants. Easily accessible is popular Church Stretton, and Shropshire’s finest town Ludlow, framed by the gentle Clee Hills, with its impressive castle, magnificent church, many half-timbered buildings and Georgian red-brick houses. Bridgnorth has what is reputed to be the steepest cliff railway in Britain and superb cliff-top walks overlooking the River Severn below. From here, during summer, the Severn Valley Railway’s steam train chugs the scenic 16-mile route to Kidderminster. Attingham Park (National Trust), Benthall Hall (National Trust), Ironbridge Gorge and the old market town of Much Wenlock (with its medieval priory) are all within easy driving distance. Riding, sailing, fishing, golf, pubs and restaurants locally. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 5 miles.

Tree House Barn (rddj), Stockbatch Granary (RJ6), Windy Mundy Farm (RNG) and The Generals Quarters (UKC2646) can be booked together to accommodate up to 48 guests.

    Matt – 4 Dec 2018
"Beautiful location and perfect for the 10 of us! Exactly what we wanted, plenty of space and the games room went down a treat! Dining room plenty big enough for a larger group! Can’t fault the place"

"great location, ideal for a big family."
    Rita – 20 Oct 2018
"The barns are absolutely fabulous. The beds and towels are very nice and clean. Very, very roomy. The games room is a great extra - perhaps a dart board would be a good addition. Out of the way up a dirt track for about a mile but the brochure does state no pub or shop for about 5 miles but with the games room and so much room you make your own fun. Very well stocked with glasses, mugs, plates etc. We took boules which would have been ideal but the weather wasn't good to us. I have spoken to the Manager and said a couple of niggles need addressing i.e. the shower in Room G does not work (I think the water pump isn't efficient enough and makes a terrible noise) and also the dishwasher needs a good clean (the filter needs cleaning and around the seals). Would I go again, definitely."

"We were so looking forward to this holiday and bringing together all the family. When we arrived it looked like beautiful countryside and the bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious and looked pretty clean. The kitchen was rather disappointing - the fridge freezer mucky, with broken shelves, and the kitchen bin had a broken bin lid so we had to cover it with a chopping board, particularly as there were a lot of flies, but we thought that could all be lived with. By 1am the next morning, it was the holiday from hell. I felt bugs were crawling on me, turned on the light and found bed bugs all over the bed. A week later I still had terrible welts. With 5 small children this was a nightmare. The whole of the next day was on the phone trying to get new accommodation, as well as to the caretaker who tried his best. Pest control were finally sent and commented that there had been an infestation in two rooms, and the beds were new in those rooms so it's likely the owners knew. In the other rooms which all had to be inspected there were carpet moths, spiders and dirt as we pulled back every bed. The owner completely washed their hands of the situation, has never spoken to us, and we are still awaiting a reply to our complaint. Eventually we were given alternative accommodation. We had to stay put another night, sleeping on the sofas, and so a 7 day holiday became 5, full of stress. We had to go direct to Reevoo with proof of purchase to have the opportunity to post this review - I'm guessing other negative reviews may have been weeded out by not sending a Reevoo invitation to them."

"Beautiful property in a lovely location with great views of the countryside. QUiet and peaceful."
    Aileen – 13 Aug 2018
"Great place for a big family gathering, lovely rooms, lots of space. The sun shone for us every day so we were out and about a lot but if it had rained we would have found plenty to entertain us at the Granary."
    Michael – 12 Aug 2018
"Great property with fantastic views of the country side. Garden was perfect size. Only down side was water system finds its difficult during peak times. The track leading to property needs surfacing."
    Phil – 13 Jun 2018
"In the 30 years + we have been staying in these types of large houses, this is possibly the best one we visited. Lots of space, good facilities, good size kitchen, en-suite in every bedroom. The only disadvantage is it's location. The access to it is around 1 mile on a rather rough track with lots of potholes (some v large) and, because of it's remoteness, mobile signals can be a bit hit-and-miss.Would still recommend it as a great place to stay."
    Tim – 29 May 2018
"A perfect place for our large family. The play ban was great for the kids (and the adults). The large lawn was just right for a family bbq and for the kids to let off steam."
    M – 1 May 2018
"This was an amazing place to stay - if a bit off the beaten track, check on some sort of map before you try and get there!! All the rooms were huge and it is brilliant for all to have en-suite facilities, no queueing in the mornings. You can walks straight out from the house and lots of wildlife to see."
    Cara – 14 Apr 2018
"We used this as a wedding venue after getting married in Shrewsbury. It took some vision but staying here was the best weekend. The location and the accommodation itself were incredible."
    Victoria – 7 Mar 2018
"We did have a lovely week but, we were rather disappointed, feeling that it was a bit tired and in need of a lick of paint and a bit of TLC. The majority of bedrooms were reached through the games room (normally not too much of a problem) but it was below freezing outside and there was no heating in the games room. The kitchen floor had not been washed properly and had to be washed when we arrived. The outside rubbish bin was overflowing when we arrived and was not emptied. (It was not snowing so no excuse)The tv was not working properly the sound was coming out of 1 speaker and there was not sky."
    Susan – 10 Feb 2018
"The fridges could do with up dating and we could not get the television to work."
    gillian – 3 Jan 2018
"A great place for an extended family Christmas for adults and a dog. Great kitchen and dining spaces. Cosy living room with warm fire and plenty of space for games or tv watching and the sports barn was a huge bonus. Warm bedrooms with decent bathrooms. WiFi was not working and phone signal was weak, but a detox from the internet for a few days was no hardship. We will certainly be back!"
