The Generals Quarters sleeping up to 14 guests

The Generals Quarters, inspired by two distinct periods, is peacefully situated within extensive grounds, and is ideal for large family groups.
Peacefully situated within the extensive grounds of the Pitchford Estate, these four properties offer superb holiday accommodation. The Generals’ Quarters (UKC2646) is named after a previous owners of the hall, General Sir Robert and Charles Grant. Guests will be situated in the West Wing, the oldest part of the hall constructed in 1549 (but with beams dating back to the 1250s), and the Hall’s Northern Range. The accommodation will be based on The Tudors and the late Georgian period. Guests will notice the two distinct periods as they move around the General’s Quarters, and will be able to decide which period rooms they wish to sleep in.

Windy Mundy Farm (RNG) has been converted from an 18th-century threshing barn and deer shelter and is located on an old deer park at the centre of the estate. The bespoke oak dining table offers a dining arrangement for 16 guests. Built on top of a south-facing hill overlooking Row Brook, and part of a working arable farm, it is surrounded by fields of wheat and barley and has spectacular, far-reaching views towards the Shropshire hills. Enclosed by a long stone wall, the farm has its own courtyard garden with a terrace and barbecue.

Stockbatch Granary (RJ6) is reached by a mile-long drive passing through the mixed arable land of Stockbatch Farm, with its fields of corn encircled by woodland. It comprises an 18th-century granary, clapperboard barn, stables and cowsheds, and nestles on a south-facing slope, at the bottom of which a stream wends its way gently along. A courtyard garden enclosed by a red sandstone wall provides a pleasant sitting-out area from which to survey the countryside views.

Tree House Barn (rddj) is a sensitively restored detached barn conversion which enjoys views of the world famous Pitchford Tree House (the oldest tree house in the world).

Within 6 miles of each property is historic Shrewsbury with its fascinating architecture, castle, museums, fine shops and wealth of traditional inns and restaurants. Easily accessible is popular Church Stretton, and Shropshire’s finest town Ludlow, framed by the gentle Clee Hills, with its impressive castle, magnificent church, many half-timbered buildings and Georgian red-brick houses. Bridgnorth has what is reputed to be the steepest cliff railway in Britain and superb cliff-top walks overlooking the River Severn below. From here, during summer, the Severn Valley Railway’s steam train chugs the scenic 16-mile route to Kidderminster. Attingham Park (National Trust), Benthall Hall (National Trust), Ironbridge Gorge and the old market town of Much Wenlock (with its medieval priory) are all within easy driving distance. Riding, sailing, fishing, golf, pubs and restaurants locally. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 5 miles.

Tree House Barn (rddj), Stockbatch Granary (RJ6), Windy Mundy Farm (RNG) and The Generals Quarters (UKC2646) can be booked together to accommodate up to 48 guests.

"Well what can I say but...AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING YOU SIMPLY MUST STAY HERE...the rest can jog on. Full of such history and charm...And that's to go for the owners too! They showed us around the main house and what a treat. Lovely warm people. I can't wait to go back!"
    Flora – 18 Oct 2018
"We stayed at the Generals Quarters as a group of friends. This place is amazing. It was a privilege to stay in such an old building that had been so thoughtfully restored. The restoration is still ongoing in the grounds but its easy to see how beautiful these will be with time. The house itself is a few miles from shops and pubs but if you come prepared there is no real reason to leave! You might want to bring a board game or two though. The house itself had more than enough space for 14 adults. The kitchen was well equipped for preparing meals for everyone and all the bedrooms were large and had their own individuality. We would definitely return here, what a great experience."
    Naureen – 19 Jun 2018
"Needs instructions for house, and better kitchen/dining equipment. Sitting room not good for 14 to sit together. Downstairs bedroom I’ll equip and only suitable for children but parents wouldn’t leave children on their own downstairs. So good for 12 people. Otherwise beautiful bedrooms"
    Suzannah – 8 May 2018
"We had a great weekend in The General’s Quarters. The accommodation is beautiful and has a lot of space. Unfortunately the WiFi doesn’t work which was frustrating for a number of the party and the house wasn’t quite fully equipped (for example, the house sleeps 14 but there were only 7 chairs around the kitchen table; we were a group of 10) but as we were the first group in, we understand that there will be things to improve as more groups stay.I would highly recommend this accommodation."
