Cronkhill Farmhouse sleeping up to 14 guests

Large, timber framed farmhouse re-modelled by John Nash, with beams, feature fireplaces and a sun trap walled garden with fruit trees.
Enjoying uninterrupted views over parkland towards the River Severn and Wrekin Hill, S16861 occupies a delightful elevated position on the National Trust’s Attingham Park Estate.
This spacious, timber framed farmhouse is located in extensive and picturesque grounds including a sun trapped walled garden, fruit trees and brick apple store. Dating from the 17th century and Grade I listed, it was remodelled by John Nash, the famous Regency architect, to match the adjoining property (also National Trust and open 6 days a year).
S16861 retains many period details, including beamed ceilings, quarry tile floors and open fireplace. Providing spacious living accommodation, well equipped farmhouse-style kitchen and large dining and entertaining space, it can sleep up to 14. Its idyllic situation combines a very convenient location, close to the bustling town of Shrewsbury and the prettiest villages of Shropshire.
The property is especially popular with families and groups of friends. Customers are welcome to push the divan beds in the twin rooms together if they wish to form double beds. A la carte catering for special occasions and a freezer filling service are available to pre-book.
Accommodation: Entrance hall/boot room. Large living room with open fire. Spacious dining room. Well-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen with electric range. First floor: Two double bedrooms, one with en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Four twin bedrooms, 2 with additional single bed (each for +1). Shower room with toilet. Further bathroom with over-bath shower, toilet.
Location: A local post office, shop, gastro pub and traditional country pub are all within ½ mile of Cronkhill. The National Trust’s Attingham Park is just 1 mile away, at the centre of which is a fine Regency mansion set within a deer park designed by Humphrey Repton. There is extensive year round walking to be enjoyed here.
This is an excellent central base from which to explore Shropshire. Shrewsbury lies 3 miles to the north, with its fine period architecture, cinemas, restaurants and excellent shopping. To the south are the spectacular Shropshire Hills and Acton Scott’s Historic Working Farm, as seen on BBC TV’s hit show Victorian Farm and a firm favourite with families. In its medieval castle setting, Ludlow provides a food paradise with Michelin star restaurants and artisan shops galore. Eight miles to the east is the World Heritage site of Ironbridge Gorge and its many museums. Three ruined abbeys and the remains of the ancient Roman city of Wroxeter are all within a 20-minute drive.
The custodian of S16861 is Rupert Acton who helps to manage his family’s Acton Scott estate, famous for providing the film location for BBC TV’s Victorian Farm and new series, Escape in Time, presented by Ben Fogle. A thirty minute drive south of Cronkhill, three further holiday houses may be found at Acton Scott. Henley Farmhouse, sleeps up to 20, ref RJJ3; The Shooting Lodge, sleeps 8 + 3, ref RNP; and Henley Cottage, an authentic Victorian farm labourer’s cottage, sleeps 4+1, ref ROO4.

"Place was cold pictures don’t reflect property place was dirty kitchen equipment still covered in food and stains Beds hard as rock Place is bland and plain"

"We had such a fantastic weekend, hopefully we’ll be back next year."
    David – 19 Sep 2018
"Nine adults, two children and a mature dog, room for all.Lovely farmhouse kitchen, dining room where we could all sit together to eat. Good lounge area although the three spacious settees look a bit tired. The two baths with showers above could really do with non-slip mats when using the shower.Great views, lovely grounds and the adjacent Adam's house was charming to visit."
    Angela – 10 Sep 2018
"Historic farmhouse which has been refurbished as a comfortable and modern holiday venue. Ideal for large parties/families with own garden, seating area and table tennis as well as parking for a number of cars.Lack of groundfloor toilet and bathroom facilities - unsuitable for ambulant disabled people or and/or wheelchair users."
    Lynn – 1 Sep 2018
"Spacious house with lots of character. There was plenty of room for 10 adults to hang out and relax. Cooking equipment was a bit basic and we found the house chilly as we were there in late August and there wasn't any heating on."
    Sarah – 7 Jul 2018
"Very spacious house, plenty of room for our party of 10 plus baby. The house was very quiet and noise didn’t carry, which was excellent. The gardens were very spacious and as we were very lucky with hot sunny weather every day, we spent much of our time in the gardens playing table tennis or other games or just chilling. We could have done with a second kettle for that number of people, and the one we had had a broken lid. We could have done with some trays in the kitchen. You do really need a car to get around as there weren’t any walks which start from the house."
    Confirmed guest – 3 Jun 2018
"Had a great feel as soon as you walked in, plenty crockery and utensils. Being on the farm means lots of flies but an electric bug killer included. Garden perfect for dogs and children. No dog walks directly from the property but Attingham Park only a mile away. Our party ranged from 4 years to 60 and everyone had a great time."
    Alan – 16 May 2018
"We had a family gathering (8 adults, 6 children and 2 dogs) to celebrate a 70th birthday. We loved the spaciousness of the property - the beds were comfortable and it was spotlessly clean.Being a historic listed building, there was not the level of "luxury" one might get in other places, but perfectly adequate. The older children used the internet service extensively, though this was subject to speed restrictions, which caused some frustration. The outdoor table-tennis was a surprise - and we had the beautiful weather to use it.We were pleased that our visit coincided with one of the 6 days a year when the NT part of the house was open to the public - a real bonus. The road access had rather a lot of potholes, but this is not unexpected in a farm track."
    Wallace – 23 Mar 2018
"We had a lovely weekend staying here. We hit a very cold weekend in March and the large farmhouse was lovely and warm but the lounge was quite draughty. It would help to have curtains up at all windows. There was just one window without curtains. We also suffered a power cut and although this was quite common for the area there was only one torch. As it caters for large groups it would have been helpful for additional torches or battery candle lights. The house was generally well equipped.Directions to find the house were good and the owner easily contacted. He was happy to give information regarding local area."
    Robert – 26 Feb 2018
"A wonderful few days spent at Cronkhill. A lovely spacious cottage, excellent sized rooms, much bigger than they appear in pictures. A day trip to Shrewsbury was not far away and a local walk to the park and the pub kept everyone happy. I would happily stay there again."
    Sally – 17 Feb 2018
"Fabulous house, lots of character, lovely and warm. Perfect for our family gathering. Lots to do in the area we really enjoyed visiting Shrewsbury and Attingham Park. climbing the Wrekin and walking the Long Mynd."
