About this property

Set in a tranquil estate in the rural borderlands of Cheshire and Shropshire, Cotton Cottage was originally the coachman’s house and has some unique features, including a Jacobean style turret, mullion windows and decadent four poster bed.

While away the morning sitting in the pretty window seat in the living room. Catch some sun in the garden with a book and a cup of coffee. Or take a dip in Combermere Mere before coming back to your cottage to prepare dinner in the bespoke oak kitchen. There are so many ways to enjoy a stay at Cotton Cottage.

You can’t miss the property as you approach the restored stables, as its unique turret sets it apart. With the red brick exterior walls, mullion windows and attractive sun trap of a garden, it looks every inch the classic English rural hideaway. Step inside and the Cheshire exterior gives way to Indian style decoration, with fresh, tasteful shades, paintings on the walls and antique furniture too.

Cotton Cottage comes with two first floor bedrooms. The double bedroom has its original fireplace as well as a superb four poster bed, while the twin bedroom has specially designed beds and original furniture. The property has everything you need for a relaxing break for four, and is also available to book with other properties on the estate for larger groups.

The cottage itself was excellent but we lost the first day of our holiday because we were not supplied with the code for the gates until the Tuesday ( joining instructions did not point out that the office would be closed on Saturday - unusual for the hospitality industry). The emergency telephone number which Rural Retreats provided when I asked them for help was defunct. I feel that the whole experience puts Combermere in a very poor light. The administrator did not offer any form of compensation.- even a bunch of flowers would have been a token gesture.

As usual, Rural Retreats provided an excellent place to stay - quiet & peaceful, everything we needed in the cottage, plus a very full welcome basket. We will continue to go through RR as their standard of accommodation is always high. Many thanks.

We have just returned from the weekend in Cotton Cottage where we met up with friends for a mini reunion. I had spent hours researching the perfect place to stay and I have to say, from the moment we drove into this amazing property, we were bowled over and knew we'd made the right choice. Everything about this place is simply perfect. The grounds are magnificent and we felt as though we were being entertained in elegant style. And the cottage itself -- located in the midst of this beautiful ground -- offers everything one could wish for. Not only is it extremely spacious, the decor is splendid, the kitchen equipment all you need, and the bedrooms are comfortable and large. My husband and I won the coin toss and ended up in the larger bedroom with the gorgeous four poster bed which we loved, and our evenings began with cocktails at the outdoor table followed by home-cooked meals around the dining table (part of the large lounge area). The cottage was well equipped with all we needed -- from hairdryer to kitchen appliances to outdoor umbrella and deckchairs to WiFi and flatscreen TV -- and we took several walks around the property, down to the lake, through the walled flower gardens and by the tennis courts. Sadly, after two nights we had to leave. But this property will stand out in our minds as one of the loveliest we've stayed in for quite some time.
