Pheasants Hill Old Byre sleeping up to 2 guests

This barn conversion provides a luxurious and romantic space for couples to run away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a while.
Pheasants Hill Old Byre was once one of the cow barns of Pheasants Hill Farm, and is nestled adjacent to the owners’ home. The farm buildings date from the mid-18th century and comprise a traditional brick-and-flint farmhouse, an impressive range of outbuildings - barns, granary and cart shed. Originally belonging to the Hambleden Estate, it ceased being a working farm in 1962 and was purchased by the present owner’s father in 1968. The farm is situated in the renowned Hambleden Valley and lies within the Pheasants Hill Conservation Area, as well as the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is under the protection of a National Trust covenant.
You will find mementoes of previous generations throughout the property. The owner’s grandfather was a master carver and you will be sleeping in a wonderful carved oak bed that he made for his own wedding in 1902 (but made super-comfortable with a brand new sprung base and orthopaedic mattress). The owner’s father was an artist and nearly all of the paintings and drawings in the property are his work.
The one-acre garden, shared with the owners, is fully enclosed (to keep the deer out). Guests can enjoy their own sitting area, with table and chairs provided. The garden is looked after without the use of pesticides or herbicides and is, in consequence, a haven for wildlife. The wildflower meadow is covered in cowslips in the spring and more than 100 Pyramid Orchids appear in the summer.
The owners are passionate about wildlife and the environment, and will be donating 15% of earnings on the property to local wildlife and conservation charities. Hot water and heating in the property uses electricity solely from renewable resources. Rainwater for the garden is collected in a large underground cistern. Shop/tea room and pub/restaurant ½ mile.
. All on the ground floor. Beamed throughout.

    Richard – 11 Nov 2018
"We were here for a second time and again a pleasant and quiet stay. Chilterns in the autumn is a wonderful period. The red kites were still there and also the pheasants. Charles and Kate areGreat in hospitality and made us feel home. As NT members we found out there is a lot to see and we were short in time to look for it all. W’ll booked again!"
    Angela – 3 Nov 2018
"Loved it, great owners, beautiful property, tastefully furnished, warm and cosy.Have booked again for 4 nights in December, can't wait."
    Gillian – 30 Oct 2018
"I am delighted to recommend Pheasants Byre, where I recently stayed with my dog. Clean, cosy, comfortable, warm, extremely well-equipped and fitted, it sits in the Chiltern Hills, where good walks and pubs abound. Best of all was the warm welcome given by the charming owners, who live in the adjacent property and for whom nothing is too much trouble. I hope to return very soon."
    Mrs Wiseman – 27 Sep 2018
"I would highly recommend this cottage, for the points above. I cannot comment on local amenities I have no idea. I didn't look for them. The hosts were extremely friendly and very helpful. it was a haven of peace."
    ian – 19 Sep 2018
"This is a lovely little cottage with all home comforts provided. We were pleased that it had a very comfy bed as this is something many owners don't seem to consider (rock-hard mattresses seem to be commonplace). The shower room was well fitted too, as was the kitchen. Kate and Charles were incredibly welcoming, and there were lots of extra treats provided, including home-made shortbread and jam. Although the garden was shared with the owners, they made it clear we could sit anywhere that suited us, and equally, that the dogs were allowed to roam. The local village is very pretty and the pub served some delicious food. All-in-all a good break."
    David – 29 Aug 2018
"Fantastic space in a location giving lots of options from time in Henley itself to walking/riding locally to even taking the day to relax in the cottage. Impeccably clean with great facilities and very friendly hosts who strike the perfect balance of being welcoming but leaving you to your own devices. Would recommend to anyone."
    George – 13 Aug 2018
"Our stay at this cottage was the best we ever had. And the kindness of the landlords was undescribingly! A big THANKS to the both of them!!!"
    Fraser – 5 Aug 2018
"A secluded gem... We got a genuinely warm and friendly welcome from the owners, Kate and Charles, who live in the house across the garden. The cottage is a 10 mins walk from Hambleden. It was spotlessly clean and well-presented when we arrived, with homemade biscuits, marmalade, and ginger curd given as thoughtful extras. Kate and Charles are enthusiastic about their gem of a property and the wildlife they are striving to attract. The grounds are completely enclosed which was important to us with our dog who has zero road sense. We were able to let him wander around the garden freely. There are wonderful walks nearby and Kate and Charles are happy to point out routes."
    Richard – 29 Jul 2018
"A wonderful stay with a very warm welcome from the owners Kate and Charles. Beautiful area for walking and lovely local pub."
    Alison – 8 Jul 2018
"Loved it. Charles & Kate made us feel so welcome"
    Richard – 7 Jul 2018
"The owners are very friendly and helpfull and made us really feel welcome. The cottage is very cosy and well equiped and is situated in a quiet and beautiful area. The red kites in the sky, flowers in the garden and the stream below for the labrador to swim in it.the chilterns could be a phrase from Purcell ' to the hills and the vales, to the mystical places' We have stayed in many places over the years, but this was really 10+!"
    Susan – 3 Jun 2018
"This is an old farm building turned into holiday accommodation - a combination of character and all mod cons. Set in the owners garden, with full access to a wildflower area, a peaceful and quiet location, excellent for staying with 2 dogs. Our hosts were welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed our stay of 7 nights, the place was beginning to feel like home!"
    GERALD – 24 May 2018
"We had a good week in the property, the owners were very friendly and helpful."
    Susan – 9 May 2018
"Beautifully presented property with lots of nice little touches. Lovely friendly, helpful hosts."
