Khina Cottage, North Foreland Lighthouse, Broadstairs sleeping up to 4 guests

    Complimentary Welcome Hamper
A complimentary welcome hamper will be awaiting you on your arrival containing milk, tea, fresh coffee, bread, butter, eggs, juice, wine and cheese, along with other essential items to prepare a light snack or breakfast. There may be some regional variations.

In association with Trinity House, Rural Retreats is pleased to present Khina Cottage at North Foreland Lighthouse.
Khina is one of two holiday cottages available at the lighthouse, which lies on the chalk headland above the charming and unspoilt seaside town of Broadstairs at the far eastern tip of Kent. Both cottages are very child friendly, surrounded by spacious lawned grounds and set well away from cliffs. The holiday cottages have shared use of a very large, one-acre lawned garden and patio with ample space to sit out.
The earliest reference to a light on North Foreland was given in a deed dated 1499 and, at that time, it was almost certain that the beacon was used to warn of attack or piracy rather than as an aid to navigation. The lighthouse does not have a fog signal.
    This holiday at a glance

  • Sleeps three or four guests. It is suitable for a maximum of three adults.

  • Two bedrooms and one bathroom..

  • Gas effect woodburner.

  • Shared use of a very large, one acre lawned garden and patio. Sorry, no barbeques or fireworks permitted.

  • Onsite parking.

  • Access roads to the lighthouse site are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.

  • Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.

  • Minimum of a two night stay.

  • Additional features
  • Stunning sea views.

  • Electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer.

  • TV, DVD and CD player.

  • Payphone.

  • Garden furniture.

  • Attractions and nearby amenities

  • The nearest pub, the Digby Inn, is a 10-minute stroll and serves good food.

  • For golfing enthusiasts, the North Foreland Golf Club is very close by.

  • Broadstairs has good sandy beaches and an attractive old town which has literary associations with Charles Dickens.

  • Bleak House in the town of Broadstairs is where Dickens lived while he was writing David Copperfield. The town holds a Dickens Festival in June each year and a popular Folk Music Week in August.

"The most perfect weekend...stunning local and perfect cottage. We can’t wait to go back"

"The location and cottage were lovely. Furnishings were tired and the lighting in the dining room needs more thought but food and household consumables were more than expected and a pleasant surprise."

"Excellent value for money. Will use this company again."

"The cottage was very nice but the second bed in the children's room was on the floor and different to the pictures of the room on the website. Which was disappointing. Otherwise a great location and very private."

"A spotlessly clean property and very friendly welcome from our caretaker, Louise. The welcome basket could not have been better--positively bountiful!"

"The cottage was lovely and in the most beautiful spot. If you were staying here during the summer (not Nov like us) the extensive garden with wonderful views would be fabulous. The Welcome hamper was a real treat and having fresh milk, tea and coffee waiting for you when you arrived.......not to mention all the naughty but very very nice treats.....marvellous!!! The only criticisms would be that the lounge furniture is far to big for the room so if there were 4 of you two people would not be able to sit and watch the TV; the TV was tuned to East Anglia and with the note about the signal we didn't like to change it; a second TV would have been appreciated in the bedroom; and the bathroom is getting rather tired with chipped enamel and rust showing on the bath and around the shower controls."

"Cottage very welcoming. Housekeeper exceptionally helpful. High quality hamper."

"Khina cottage, beautiful location, lovely cottage. But the cleaning needs to be improved. There were cobwebs in most corners. Washing Machine draw is black needs a clean. Kitchen cupboards need cleaning inside & out, they feel greasy. Windows need a good clean inside & out. We previously stayed in another cottage in Norfolk, through Rural Retreats & we had no reason to fault that property's cleanliness"

"A lovely lighthouse keeper's cottage that would have been excellent apart from 2 things - the water in the shower was only cool and this was on the maximum setting. Probably fine in summer but in winter, it was far too cold to linger. - the leaking boiler with the bucket below!"

"We were first to be married in a lighthouse (Nash Point) 11 years ago. This is our 12th lighthouse aka the anorak trip. A lovely location, very high standard, thank you for the welcome basket. We did a trip to South Foreland lighthouse to have a look around - also the new Dover tunnels. Ate twice in the newly opened restaurant in Broadstairs (called Fish & Beer). A great, relaxed atmosphere. J&D, North Wales"

"Lovely place and a lovely hamper. We were blessed with great weather. Broadstairs is a 20 minute walk, 25 if you go via the Esplanade but worth it. My mum celebrated her 8th while we were here, she enjoyed sitting outside and admiring the view. Lunch at The Pavilion on Broadstairs sea front was also good, nice food and a stunning conservatory. "Everything nigh on perfect, bar the weather, which despite the fact we clearly picked the worst week weather-wise. We absolutely loved the cottage - so peaceful at night, we barely heard a pin drop. The perfect location for wonderful Joss Bay of central Broadstairs. Many thanks for the hamper. We will definitely re-book. M & D, Milton Keynes"
