A beautiful and historic ferryman's cottage, the site of which is mentioned in Jerome K. Jerome's Three Men in a Boat, which is situated directly on the banks of the River Thames, adjacent to the Oxford University Rowing Club.
This unique property, which sits on Edwardian brick arches, overlooks its own private riverside garden and pontoon. On the other side of the river is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a working dairy farm.
Until c.1950 the house was occupied by the Wallingford ferryman, who transported horses, people and freight across the river at the point where the River Thames tow path changed sides. The raised outhouse was the ticket booth associated with the ferry.
The house is on the southern edge of the pretty medieval market town of Wallingford, situated along the banks of the River Thames. The centre of the town is a five minute walk along either the riverside or quiet roads, and has a picturesque town square with a 17th century arcaded town hall, a number of historic inns and restaurants, three ancient churches, the Corn Exchange theatre and cinema, a large Waitrose and a summer outdoor swimming pool.
You will find the house a restful and fun place, surrounded by the quiet of the Thames, with only its water wildlife for company.

    Confirmed Guest – 27 Nov 2017
"The Ferry House is a lovely place to stay in a great location, right on the river, down a quiet dead end lane but within very easy walking distance of Wallingford's centre. The accommodation is comfortable and clean, the views of the river are glorious, especially on misty mornings. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come again."
    Confirmed Guest – 7 Nov 2017
    "Clean, location and well equipped"
    Confirmed Guest – 23 Oct 2017
"It is a very interesting property - well situated and comfortable, Please ask owners to fix the 2nd bedroom radiator valve - you can't use it and it means the heating comes on when you are in bed."
    Confirmed Guest – 22 Sep 2017
"The Ferry House overlooks the Thames near the Oxford Boat House. Great view. Very peaceful."

"Excellent house and facilities for a great long weekend with friends.Enjoyed the fishing on the pontoon, boating and swimming in the Thames."
    Confirmed Guest – 24 Aug 2017
"Great location, especially the garden at the Thames river with the wildlife, the house (furniture)is a little bit dated, especially the kitchen need some updating(broken fridge,an unusuable oven because of the dirty smell,a dirty smell from under the sink, not really a nice experience.)"
    Confirmed Guest – 31 Jul 2017
    "Great location, well equipped."
    Confirmed Guest – 20 May 2017
"The Ferry House is a fantastic home from home. In a stunning location, even better than we could've imagined, it's fully equipped with everything you could ever need. When you use self catering cottages, you often find lots of gaps in kitchen equipment etc, but not here. The bonus for us was the fishing jetty at the bottom of the garden, bathed in sunshine and just waiting to be used! Perfect for sipping a glass of wine and watching the comings and goings on the river Thames."
    Confirmed Guest – 18 Apr 2017
    "All great except settees gutless."
    Confirmed Guest – 7 Apr 2017
"It was a very gently "welcome hamper" there with flowers on the table, a basket full of things to eat oder the newspaper of the day. It was a wonderful cottage at the Thames and quiet. We were very surprised and we loved it :-)"

"This property was absolutely fabulous, and we really enjoyed our stay, so would highly recommend this to people"

"Full of character, great out of season as it is warm and cosy, particularly in the small front rooms, and visibility is great as the trees which surround it are not in leaf."

"Lovely location and very nice property. A nice welcome hamper and a well stocked kitchen. Unfortunately the outside pri lights were not working and there was a leak under the sink and we were asked to empty the bowl every couple of days. We were looking forward to a coal fire but please note they are for show only."

"The cottage was lovely, perfectly positioned on the Thames. It was spotless. Hamper was of good quality. However the wifi did not work at all (there were also comments to that effect from previous guests). We contacted the housekeeper but she said she couldn't help. This property should not be advertised as having this service unless it functions which it did not in the 5 days that we were there."

"House was clean and tidy. The welcome pack was very good. All 4 members of our party were totally underwhelmed by the poor state of all the wooden garden furniture. Also by the waterside grass area which had the appearance of a meadow that had been strimmed!"

"Lovely cottage in good location. Most equipment very good, however we left a note to report a dangerous frayed iron flex and under sink leak when dishwasher used. Wi-fi and TV reception both patchy. But overall very good cottage and would go back there."
